display issue or synching issue?

Postby otherjames » Mon Aug 06, 2012 1:06 am

Hello, everyone.

I apologize in advance because my problem seems like one that has almost certainly been addressed here somewhere, but I've pored over many many threads and made extensive use of the Search and haven't seen anything, so here I am.

Anyway, I have a pretty old iPod (the date on the back is 2003, which I know makes it like a thousand in computer years), and used MediaMonkey on it successfully for about a year, before I installed the newest MM about a month ago and queered everything.

My problem is that the mp3s I put on the iPod only display in MediaMonkey; on the iPod, all of the menus are empty. When I select "Music>" and then "Artists>," I get a screen that just says "Artists/All>" which when selected gives me a screen that just says "All Albums / All>," which when selected gives me a screen that just days "All Songs," and that's the end of the line.

The files seem to actually be on the device--if I access the device via MediaMonkey, I can click on the files and they'll play just fine--but I can't get the device itself to recognize this fact.

Thanks in advance for any advice, and again, my apologies if this topic already exists.

Try to sync a single track to the iPod using iTunes. This sometimes resets the database on the device (I also assume you can right click on the iPod in the Media Tree and have a rebuild option you can try).

Well, the main reason I started using MediaMonkey was to avoid installing iTunes, and while in the course of trying to fix the above problem I did download and install the CopyTransDrivers thing (per nohitter151's synching wiki), I still don't have iTunes proper on my computer, so I don't think I can try your first suggestion.

I did try the "rebuild" method you suggested, but it didn't seem to have any effect.

Reset device or sync with iTunes is the only suggestions I have seen for this type of issue.

For the benefit of anyone having this same problem: I was ultimately able to resolve it by reverting to MM Version 3.

In that case a debug log (step 4b and 4d) captured with MediaMonkey 4.0.6 send to support would be very helpful: viewtopic.php?t=69

You can do a Portable Install of MediaMonkey 4 in a separate folder so you keep your MediaMonkey 3 install intact.
