Updating Edited Meta data on remote HD

I am doing many edits, during which the list is being re-ordered.
I am not clear whether it updates the original file or not. I suspect not.
Its hard to keep track of the ones I have updated so I just selected all and saved. This takes an age.
Is there a better way?

By default MediaMonkey saves tags to the files (Tools > Options > Tags & Playlists).
