Hi
Every time i plug my phone or a USB stick containing music into my computer MediaMonkey tries to sync it, and every time it does something bad happens. Like thousands of files just disappear. I try to remember to close Mediamonkey before I plug in, but sometimes forget. Is there some way to permanently disable this feature, and if so, how?
thanks
Ewan
How to prevent syncing

Re: How to prevent syncing
Hi,
When you first connect your USB Stick MMW will create Profile for it in Tools -> Options -> Portable devices, only thing you need to do is to locate one that is bothering you and then either configure not to sync/scan on connection or simply disable it (Not Delete) and you will not be bothered again.

Re: How to prevent syncing
Hi Pavle
Thanks. I found and unchecked an unbelievable 44 of these things. Is there any way of completely preventing sync attempt with any new devices?
For general information, I use and recommend SyncBack Free to do syncing as you can see exactly what will happen to your files before you pull the trigger. This is not a paid endorsement.

You can't disable MediaMonkey from seeing new devices, however no syncing will take place automatically. MediaMonkey will scan the device though by default.
Note: Removing the various device plugins from the PC will stop MediaMonkey seeing the devices, this however needs to be done on each update of MediaMonkey.

If you are using MMW for some time. I'm Guessing that you have number of duplicates, so I would suggest that you delete all as setting up few instead of picking the right one from 44 is better solution?

Re: How to prevent syncing
Interesting bit about that. In my current iteration of MMW Portable, I have 4 "Seagate Backup Plus Drive" items listed, and then I have "Seagate Backup Plus Drive" followed by (1) through (6). I also have my phone listed more than once as well. I own three Seagate Backup Plus Drives, and one of them has never been plugged into the computer I use Media Monkey on. I go through and delete those every once in a while, but they keep coming back. Shouldn't Media Monkey recognize the same drive every time? Windows seems to.Peke wrote:If you are using MMW for some time. This works great, until you forget about it, and wonder why you are waiting for MMW to scan your 2TB drive after an update.Lowlander wrote:Note: Removing the various device plugins from the PC will stop MediaMonkey seeing the devices, this however needs to be done on each update of MediaMonkey.

Re: How to prevent syncing
Hi,
Those duplicated was created due a bug in previous versions of MMW when some system aspects change device ID and thus I suggested to delete them all.
If you have multiple drives can you please check Partition Serial Number on all of those drives as it wont be the first time they are same and that create serious mess
May I suggest taht you disable (6) one and connect drive which I'm correct will not show drive and you can easily delete rest of Seagate Backup Plus Drives to eliminate duplicated profiles. Same thing you can do for samsung if you find one that is active on device connection.
Few years back I moved all my music from several PCs to NAS around 7TB and 120k of tracks.

Re: How to prevent syncing
I just deleted all but "Seagate Backup Plus Drive (4)." The Delete button is not available when I have this item selected. I don't remember if I saw another "E:\" before, but I now have a "E:\ (1)" listed, and it is checked to show. Nothing was checked when I looked a few hours ago. MMW Portable and Windows have been running continuously since then. The machine has not even gone to sleep.
I keep my library and my MMW Portable installation on the same, 2TB drive. I have 3 identical drives.
RAID is not data protection, it is "High-availability." I backup all important data, and transfer off-site.

- Drive 1 has my library as it was when I started my latest tagging session. It has been untouched for months, and was never plugged into this machine. This was a Full local install, so no MMW applications on it.
- Drive 2 was a clone of that drive, and I installed MMW Portable (MediaMonkey_4.1.11.1783) on it. The database was rebuilt from scratch, and no data was carried over, as the laptop is no longer functional. This is currently stored off-site.
- Drive 3 is a clone of Drive 2 as of a month ago, and is the currently used version. Drive and laptop are carried to and from Work daily. Used at Work to only play, and at home to finish up my tagging cleanup.
- In another week or so, I will likely buy a fourth drive and copy Drive 3 to it and start using that. Once I'm satisfied my Tagging cleanup was successful, I'll re-introduce Drive 1 into my backup scheme.
