[SOLVED] itunes query

Hi all, I have a question about synching MM to iphone6 with ios10.3.3. Firstly, I gave up itunes when I first bought my lifetime MM license in 2012 and have never looked back.

Today I plugged my iphone in to load a few songs onto it and MM asks for itunes to be installed. Does MM simply need to know itunes exists on my computer, or do I have to connect my device to itunes? I hope the latter is not the case, as I absolutely detest itunes!
