ReplayGain to Leveling

Post by powerpill-pacman » Sun Jun 17, 2007 2:13 am

Is it possible to write a script which copies the values produced by MP3Gain to the Leveling field? I'm, using Rockbox on my Sansa E200 and the firmware can read Replaygain and i don't want to analyse every file twice (for Rockbox and for MM).

Thanks in advance

as far as I know, replay gain is read by default... in programs or hardware that read mp3's.

if you're run mp3gain on your files.. then don't normalize them at all in mediamonkey and they will be playing at the volume levels that the replaygain data indicates..

Oh, surprised and glad to hear that, because i think i read somewhere in the forum that replaygain is going to be an option in MM3 not 2.
So thanks very much for your answer.

MM 2 analysis tags are for whatever reasons not compatible with most other apps, nor does it include album gain.

MM 3 analysis tags are compatible and does include album gain.

Volume leveling changes the files volume so that analysis tags are un-needed/redundant, which is useful for mp3 players that don't read replaygain tags, however it can affect quality and is not reversable.

I also have not heard a straight answer as to whether or not MM level track volume feature is the same or differnt as the replaygain program leveling. (I don't think they do it the same)

In any case, if your need/want to change the volume of the files (instead of just analyze) your better off using the replay gain program since it is reversable and mm volume leveling is not.

on my win98 jukebox some of the songs i can't get level anaylized by mm will in fact work if i take them in winamp and
view file info then paste the copied replay gain info from another song.
in to the same place it was on the winamp properties panel.

then i can open that song in mm and use the level anaylizer for it to set what i want in media monkey.

why that works that way i don't know but it does on mm 2.5 and win98. 8)

so mm 2.5 must beable to read replaygain info.
