Ok, I renamed custom 5 to "mp3 Encoder". Error message has gone away.

However, I noticed something else that struck me as odd. Under "Format, VBR, Bitrate" node I have 6 Kbps nodes under the "wav" node.
All but one of these appears to be an accurate reflection of what's in the library. One of them states as "1408" Kbps, but when it's clicked on the files that
show up are all "1411" Kbps.

This inaccuracy worries me that there are others. What's goin on?

I don't understand where you have 6 Kbps and where you have "1408" Kbps. Please post screenshot where I can see the tree panel with the selected node and tracks with that bitrate.

By the way, the Birtate node doesn't display files with bitrate of one fixed value, but it shows range of values with the 16 Kbps interval. For example, node "64 kbps" will display all files with bitrate between 56 and 72 kbps. The node "1408 Kbps" is displayed because it is dividable with 16.

Clarification:
There are 6 different Kbps subnodes listed under the wav node. Not, a node that says 6 Kbps.
One of those nodes is 1408 Kbps. The 1408 one, and "only" the 1408 one, brings up only a "few" files that are br 1411. "All" of these few, and only a "few", are 1411.

However, I see what you are saying. 1411 is still within the proper range for the 1408 node, right?

ok, been messing around with it some and learning some basics. My "biggest" question is, can you create root/parent nodes from scratch?

A lot of the default groups I don't really care that much about, so I'm taking the approach of deleting some and renaming/reconfiguring some to reflect my needs.
Is it possible though, to create a fresh parent node without just redoing one of the default ones? Looked around in settings and although I'm getting better, I haven't quite
figured it out.

Yes, of course. You could use Position and Group options to do that, but first you should click on the New button.

[Someone needs to report previous spam post, not sure how to do it.]

The "New Button"?
I don't see any such button nor as an item in a drop down menu.

Initially, I was thinking that it would be intuitve to be able to create a new parent by - right click > edit from the Magic Nodes title only node (similar to the concept of a
folder tree, just drop in a new folder from the "first" parent) but you can't do this, at least not directly. Then I looked around for something like a new button and did not find.

Can you tell me where this is located? ....next to....underneath....?

Just to be clear - I don't want to create something new "within a subnode" of the Magic Nodes Title node. I want to create a new node just within the Magic Nodes title node.

Here is the excerpt from the "Information about 2.0 version" section of the first post of this thread:

"there are three different ways to edit some existing mask:
1. Edit / Magic Nodes Settings, then choose mask's caption from the Caption dropdown list, edit it and click on the Save button." (in meantime the "Save" button was renamed to "Update/Rename/Add")
"2. Edit / Magic Nodes Export/Import, then click on the number of the needed mask from the # column, edit it and click on the OK button.
3. right-click on the needed node in the tree panel, choose Edit Magic Node, then edit mask and click on the OK button.

If you want to create a new mask, you should use Magic Nodes Settings dialog - just click on the New button, type some text in the Caption field and set some fields and its qualifiers."

The new version has the Settings command in the popup menu as well:

YES!, I just now had some time to play around with it again and I figured it out. I will spend some more time with it and "seriously" consider donating. I'm also currently messing around with RegExp F & R, and just downloaded Invert selection.

Thanks for all your help! You have patience, and paitience is the key to getting my money.

ok, sad to say this is becoming a major headache. Everytime I figure something out I go to the next thing I want it to do and I can't figure it out.
I started deleting all the default nodes from the beginning of the Magic Nodes tree by right clicking them and when I got past the first few I couldn't delete because
they no longer had the right click > edit & delete options. It's like some you can delete and some are embedded. I looked around in dialog boxes and what not to no avail.

Before this, I was trying to order the ones I created by putting them all at the bottom of the M N tree (below defaults). Once down there, I tried to put the second to the last one last but because it was still in "last child" mode from being moved down from the top, the "ok" button was greyed out. So, I would try to move it back up and then back down and it still would not necessarily end up "very" last. It's just one unintuitive thing after another. I mean I know there is some work involved and not everything is going to be intuitive. But I really don't want to study all the little article post/manual details and maybe understand or not just to do the most basic things.

I'm liking the RegExp F & R one though, and would really like to get back to actually working directly/tagging my collectin itself and sticking to creating a million individual collection nodes natively than have to deal with M N, at least not now anyway.

But if you have any suggestions, I always have and open ear. As far as screen shots, I don't have a way to post online for BBcode/url purposes, probably sometime soon though.

Thanks again

There are 3 possible options to delete Magic nodes/masks, similarly to editing of masks that I have mentioned:

1. choose Edit | Magic Nodes Settings, select mask that you want to delete from the Caption list and click on the Delete button;

2. choose Edit | Magic Nodes Export/Import, check all masks in the table that you want to delete and click on the Del button;

3. right-click on the node in the tree that you want to delete and choose Delete Magic Node from the popup menu.

The third option is enabled in the popup menu only if you right-click on the global node of some Magic node branch. If you don't know what is the global Magic node, then please read the PDF manual.

The second option is recommended if you want to delete batch of nodes.

The "last child" mode is MediaMonkey way for placing nodes, it is not my invention. If several masks/nodes has the same Position, then the serial number of masks determines their order in the tree. That means, the first node which has assigned the "last child" Position will be always above of the second node with the same "last child" Position. Moving of masks, i.e. changing of their serial numbers, could be done on two ways:

1. choose Edit | Magic Nodes Settings, select mask from the Caption list that you want to move and click on the up or down arrow button of the Move mask spin control;

2. choose Edit | Magic Nodes Export/Import, select mask in the table that you want to move and click on the Up or Down button.

By the way, the Settings dialog box could be made modeless, which means that it doesn't need to be closed to be able to use other options from the program - just turn on the option "Modeless MN Settings dialog box (allowed access to other parts of the program)" in the Options dialog box.

Some of the nodes produce error (not only nodes with custom fields) : "The mask defining this Magic Node produced an error. Edit the mask and try again..."
MM version: 4.1.1.1703
MN version: 4.2

One of the nodes with error:

<Group|Name:Artist Ratings|Show tracks:No>\Artists with avg. track rating >= 4 stars|Icon:Top level|Filter:Songs.ID IN (SELECT Songs.ID FROM Songs, ArtistsSongs WHERE Songs.ID = ArtistsSongs.IDSong AND (ArtistsSongs.PersonType = 1 OR ArtistsSongs.PersonType IS NULL) AND Rating >= 0 AND ArtistsSongs.IDArtist IN (SELECT ArtistsSongs.IDArtist FROM Songs, ArtistsSongs WHERE Songs.ID = ArtistsSongs.IDSong AND (ArtistsSongs.PersonType = 1 OR ArtistsSongs.PersonType IS NULL) AND Rating >= 0 GROUP BY ArtistsSongs.IDArtist HAVING Avg(Rating) >= 80))\<Artist|Statistic:Count(All), Avg(Rating)>

It works fine to me. Please post the screenshot of the Magic Nodes page in the Options dialog box. Also, you could turn on the options "Allow editing of SQL queries", "when expand field nodes" and "when select a field node", then post here the SQL query which you get in the new Magic Nodes SQL Editor dialog box after expanding or selecting such node.

Thanks for detailed report. Everything looks normal in the screenshots, but it seems that your database is broken causing those errors. In the last screenshot you could read: "database disk image is malformed". Maybe you could try with the Maintain Library > Optimize database option.

Hello.

Since v4, MM has introduced a <skipped #> field in the database which is really useful. I'm able to create an autoplay list which filters those out for viewing, but the field doesn't appear to be supported in Magic Nodes as yet. Have I missed something? If not, could I still create a node using a fully fledged sql query? If so, I'd really appreciate a little help on the syntax for the filter.

I'd like to get this working in MN, if possible.

Thanks.
