I don't know the answer to that.
I haven't had time to do much MM related including installing MM3, but that feature would motivate me to switch over the MM3. This was the one feature that really limited MonkeyRok and Scrobbler DJ in my use of MM2 as it effectively limited the apparent size of my library since most artists couldn't be matched.
I can see how that would be annoying.
I do believe there is a script which can update artists by sort order/title order, but I've no idea if it can do it real time within a different script (I'm assuming not). And I'm assuming you wand to keep sort case (tho I can't imagine why /smirk).
I also realize this may not be an easy feature to encode, but I am hoping that the SQL database format of MM3 might make this more likely to work.
Some of the SQL guru's or dev's will have to answer that, tho I do know it can catch variations of 'the artist' by putting the % token before the artistname in the sql.
