 Thanks.

OK, MAJOR UPDATE. Lyricator v0.9.1 (Revision 4) is now available from the first post. I'll start typing up some help, but most of it is self-explanatory to experienced users. I included all 3 searches, but trial-and-error showed the results for lyrics-songs.com to be incredibly wacky sometimes, even on the default search (and it can be a slow server), so it's disabled by default. I highly recommend doing a first pass with the more accurate servers and then trying this one later.

This new version found another 100 or so lyrics, including obscure independent bands I assumed I'd have to type by myself one day.

Have fun.

Thanks Das!!!
Ran it on the my songs under the genre "80s" that Lyrics-Plugin could not find (120). First used LyricsWiki, that found about 50. Then ran it with Lyrics-Song an the remaining. 120 is down to 52.

Definitely use lyrics-song last and double check the results.

Woo hoo! :) Thanks for the feedback.

I did a full accuracy test on my hard-to-get lyrics. Plugin/Wiki was 100% accurate and found 76 more lyrics than I had before. Lyrics-Song was a woeful 68% accurate, but I did snag another 62 lyrics once I filtered out the bad results. I'm almost down to nothing but foreign music and incredibly obscure indie bands. I released another version with a rudimentary "Right-click for full lyrics/Right-click to go away".

My results are in:
Original Lyricator - Whittled down to 835 files w/o lyrics.
New and Improved Lyricator - 541
So I was able to tag 294 more files.
Most of what is left are Instrumental, Jazz or Blues.

Do be careful when it is set to use Lyrics-Song. Run it as last resort and check results!

I didn't test new version yet, but for me is really funny what you're talking about Lyrics-song.com, because that's the lyrics site I use the most.
Let me explain it:
- Lyrics-song.com is in fact an english interface to brazilian lyrics service letras.mus.br, thus it is really good on (a) brazilian music and (b) worldwide music that is known in Brazil. So, if the other services didn't find a lyric for your obscure songs, it is unlikely Lyrics-song.com will do...
- When Lyrics-song.com doesn't find an exact match, it does an approximate search, which sometimes brings some strange results. For a song-by-song tagging process, like I used* to do using WebSearchPanels, this is not a problem at all. But, of course, in batch tagging it is not good.

*Yes, I used to do, because from now on I'll use Lyricator only!!!

das Monkey,
While testing this latest version, I noticed it was being "too fast" on saving lyrics. So I took a look at the code and confirmed you're saving lyrics to DB only, not to tag. This forces the user to Synchronize Tags, after using Lyricator.

A simple way to solve this is replacing this code...

Code: Select all

tracks.Item(i).UpdateDB
.. by this...

Code: Select all

tracks.Item(i).UpdateDB
tracks.Item(i).WriteTags
...at line 57.

Wait a minute, now. I was told to make this thing faster. No one said anything about making it work properly! :D

That's definitely my "MediaMonkey n00b" moment. It never occurred to me that I needed to explicitly write the tags after updating the DB.

Thanks for the tip, gege. I've updated the release. Would I be correct in recommending that people who have been testing the Lyricator alpha need to select the files they've updated and hit Ctrl-S to manually synchronize the file tags to match the database?

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Das:

Don't worry about the inconvencience, that's why they call it "testing". 8)

Oh, yeah! And "alpha testing" is what I call "living on the edge"! 8)

It's a bit cumbersome to go to Tools -> Scripts -> Lyricator if one is picking and choosing songs to find the lyrics for.

Is there a way to have a toolbar button or have it in the right-click context menu when a song or group of songs is highlighted?

You can add this script into MM3 and have almost every script available via right-click:
