ASIO/Kernel Stream/??? for best audio?

Post by ashenkin » Wed Aug 10, 2011 12:50 pm

Hi Folks,

I'm interested in looking into piping audio directly to my audio DSP chip instead of routing everything through windows. I'd like to see if I get noticeably better sound quality this way, esp with my FLAC files (will I notice any diff?). But, I'm confused.

There's ASIO, Kernel Streaming, WASAPI, etc. I don't know which way to go. Any ideas as to what's the right way for me to go? I'm on a Lenovo Thinkpad T410, which has a Conexant 20585 SmartAudio HD chip. I've tried installing's x64 SSE2 ASIO driver, but the conexant driver doesn't come up in the configuration panel - perhaps it's not natively ASIO-compatible. I could go get ASIO4ALL I guess, but I wanted to check in with the community before I went too far down this road.

WASAPI is your solution as it is he way of MS handled ASIO and kernel Streaming.
