It seems like I use Wikipedia more and more for completing/checking/updating my tags. It is an excellent source for data such as a 'original date', label and writers (composer). To my mind it is also the best and most consistent source for data out there on genre (even if it is still far from perfect). It also often includes album covers, but I seldom use their version (too small for me).
It certainly has fairly limited scope (no wildly exotic titles out there), but it's coverage of more mainstream music is typically great (and surprisingly broad).
Has anyone created an automated/semi-automated way to tag music based on this great source of data?
In a perfect world I'd love to see a tagger that would 'audit' libraries and point out inconsistencies with Wikipedia and give us a chance to change or ignore the discrepancy...
Any Wikipedia based Taggers?

One of the reasons this isn't really possible is because of the inconsistency of the articles on Wikipedia.

yup. the pages are not formatted in a universal way, so it's near impossible to make a scraper that can pull the info from any particular page.Mizery_Made wrote:One of the reasons this isn't really possible is because of the inconsistency of the articles on Wikipedia.

A follow-up to this discussion.
Would DBPedia (http://blog.dbpedia.org/) be a way to access structured music information from Wikipedia?
According to their Ontology (http://mappings.dbpedia.org/server/ontology/classes/), concepts such as Albums, Artists, Songs, etc. should be directly available.
For example:
- http://dbpedia.org/page/Thriller_(song) and http://dbpedia.org/page/Thriller_(Micha ... son_album)
