I run Backup on timer of 60 minutes. Twice now it has stalled over night on a permission denied @604 (deleting staging Scripts folder).

Not a huge problem. The zip has been succesfully created by that time, and, recovery in the morning is to:
- Click OK to error
- Delete entire staging folder
- Exit & Restart MM to restart timer.

Well permission denied tends to be caused by Windows, or possibly anti-virus software - I'm not sure it would only randomly happen occasionally though.

Yeah. I will check file attributes in detail and cross check with Process Explorer's Ctrl-F next time it happens. It has happened again, but, I did not do a full check when it happened. Got a post-it note on my monitor to remind me. :D

Got two more occurrences of the error. Nothing I can find in the morning to explain it, but, in retrospect that is not to surprising. If I have the permission to delete the staging folder then whatever the conflicting condition was, it is gone. Bahh.

Also saw two occurrences of WSH object creation errors at startup of backup.

I don't need the same frequency of backups any longer (I hope) and I wanted to time shift the backups away from the hourly podcast update scans.

So, I set backup frequency to:
- 5 minutes after startup (enough time to finish most of a podcast scan if it happened at startup) and
- every 240 minutes.

Is the 240 minute timer initiated at startup or after the startup backup?

I'm sorry you're still having some problems, maybe a file is locking in the folder or something? The 240 minute timer is initiated at startup.

Thanks. I'll change that timer to 250. Being right on the same minute each time is not important (just habitual), but staying away from podcast scans is.

Edit:
I thought of that, but the only processes I can think of that would be looking at a folder that does not exist prior to the backup are:
- Avast anti-virus
- Vista indexing

-- You can register your dll by following these steps. Keep in mind that your filepath could differ slightly depending on your OS
-- Open command prompt by typing cmd.exe into start menu.
-- Right-click on the command prompt shortcut and select "Run as administrator"
-- Input this command: regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\MediaMonkey\Scripts\XZip.dll"

I tried this and got the message, "Dll Register server in K:\MediaMonkey\Scripts\XZip.dll succeded"
Still no Zip being created?

Is the Zip reequired to restore? All the other files are being created?

No, the zip file is not required to restore, it's just that some people prefer to have a single backup zip file instead of a backup folder.

During a backup and/or restore is all album art also preserved?

No. You have to backup your media as well to backup the album art. This backups the database which points to the album art.

telliott wrote:Any chance this script will backup and restore podcast subscriptions and playlists? Restoring podcast subscriptions was my biggest pain after creating a new database to replace my corrupt one.

Sorry if this was mentioned before but this thread is so large. Lots to wade through.

Thanks for the script. Just used it to backup my MM 3.0.3.1147

I second this request! To create an OPML of the subscriptions should not be a problem.

All podcast subscriptions and playlists, as of the time of the backup, will be restored with the database.

If the backup is old then there may be duplicate downloads of recent episodes after the restore.

It sounds like you need to register your dll.

a. Open command prompt by typing cmd.exe into start menu.
b. right-click on the command prompt shortcut and select "Run as administrator"
c. Input this command: regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\MediaMonkey\Scripts\XZip.dll"

Hopefully that solves your problem. But post back if it doesn't.
Good luck!
