It's not really necessary. I think it's just something you would use if early after you do a first scan of a very small size collection. It wouldn't start backing up until
it reached at least 1mb. Otherwise, no point in backing up because still too small to matter (that's my guess, anyway) .

The only thing necessary for "meta data" backup restoration is the backup file. The .ini stores settings for MM and many scripts
and the .registry stores settings for views.

As a test, try unchecking Output and check Archive and/or check Output and check Archive but change Archive path.

I could be wrong, but the reason why you can't tick the archive boxes is because you need to register your zip dll. Note that these instructions could be different if you are using the DotNetZip component.

Don't know if this got missed:

If I ever have trouble restoring it with your script I can just drag the Backed up files over to the working folders, right? Or would I also need registry settings as well?

One other question, I can't check box the archive path.

I think you may have missed our responses. We answered both questions in the posts right before this. In short,
- Yes, you can copy/paste the backed up files to the working folders if you want to restore MM. You would also restore the .reg files if you wanted to restore the view settings.
- You need to register your zip.dll to be able to check the archive box.

Thanks again, everyone. I still can't get the archive feature to work, I tried to register the dll with the command path line but it can't find XZip.dll in that location. My MM is in (X86) folder, so I changed the path to that but it can't find that dll.

Hunting in Windows I did find XZip.dll here:
C:\Users\Doane\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\Scripts\XZip.dll

Should I run the command again and use that path?

Thanks,

Yes, I would give it a try. It might be a difference between MM3 and MM4.

You might also try just installing the dotnetzip component. Here are the instructions for that.

Before I mess with the registry (cringe)... does that XZip.dll have to be in the scrips folder? Couldn't I just copy it over to that scripts folder, or would having two of them cause problems?

Honestly, I wouldn't mess with XZip. I would install DotNetzip instead. Trixmoto added DotNetZip in the most recent update because it had some advantages over XZip. That's my two cents.

Well.. I already have the free 7-Zip utility installed on my computer and I really like it as it handles everything I want and I've been using it for years.
http://www.7-zip.org/
Can I just copy the .dll for it over to the MM Scripts folder, and do the registry path command line to it, or to where it is under windows at C:\Program Files (x86)\7-Zip\7-zip.dll ?

Thanks,

I'm not sure. That is a question for the developer or someone more knowledgeable than me.
