Script didn't work for me.
Under tools, there is no:
Tools -> Scripts -> Move Device Content

Any idea why?
I'm using tweakMonkey (In case it helps)

Change Drive ID after moving files, files won't play

Post by RobG » Wed Mar 07, 2007 2:18 am

I copied a large library of dance music from my desktop PC to a new laptop. Every song in the library has custom field info that is lost when I perform a scan, so I'm looking for a way to retain that info.

I performed a scan on a single music file so that MM could get the hard drive location info. It found/created new location HD: SQ004Q50V04 (C). After running onkel_enno's Change_HDD_Serial script on my laptop, the library is populated - looks perfect, but the files won't play. I get a MM warning that says: "Tracks from the following location are currently inaccessible, SQ004Q50V04, Please reconnect the drive, insert the CDs, or save the tracks to the Virtual CD".

Can anyone help me solve this problem? :-?

Looks like I've solved it. It was a simple data path error. :D Thanks for the great script, onkel_enno!

An idea for an update I think might be worthwhile...

+ allow the option of moving ALL files from one device-id to another _or_ only *selected* files.

For example, I'd like to move only a subset (specific folders) from one device to another.

I can select these files from the location node > all, however the script moves ALL files on the device-id.

I get an error 438 when I run the script
line 155 column 2 Label.Multiline = True
object doesn't support this property or method

Nebbin wrote:I had similar issue a while back. Fixed it simply by changing one entry (the serial number) in the database Media table. Didn't need to do it per track since all tracks were already mapped to the one media ID. (Of course you need to get the new HD's serial number first.)

Regardless, it's a great script that should make the upgrade experience a lot easier. Also, this way you don't need to edit the DB manually (which can be dangerous for a new user).
how did you change th database? the script isn't working for me.
