auto-convert Qs

Postby scott967 » Mon Jun 04, 2012 3:45 am

I have been playing a little with MM 4.03 as a DLNA server for my Denon 3311ci AVR as a renderer. The Denon only does audio, though it does do AAC from M4A and AAC files (at least, that's how I read Denon's manual). For some reason I tried sending some MP4 files (AVC/AAC) and I was surprised the Denon played the AAC and showed the cover art / metadata. I don't think MM4 is doing any conversion on MP4 files, right? Is there some way to determine exactly what MM is sending? I do seem to lose a couple seconds of audio at the end of the file.

Also, the "webhelp" on auto-conversion could use some fleshing out. I think I get the gist of it but it's kind of hard since I can't seem to see exactly what is coming out of MM. For example the "supported formats" (although the pop-up window is titled "compatible formats" which makes more sense in the context of the conversion rules). I take it the way the format rule is parsed is first the file format is examined and if that passes then the audio and video streams are examined?

Assuming you use the default media sharing settings then mp4 is listed as a supported audio and video format which means the track would not be auto-converted.

OK, thanks. I figured that was the case. I guess I need to fool around some with the conversion options and get to be a little more power user.
