Large "Now Playling" List Crashing (Samsung S8) [#15198]

Post by cokehearth » Mon Nov 05, 2018 2:11 am

Hello all,

I'm currently using the Beta app (latest update, I believe) on Samsung S8 (Android 8.0), and have the full, purchased version. My library has about 25,000 songs in it, which I realise is rather big.

If I'm browsing through 'tracks', and accidentally select a song, inevitably this ends up with a Now Playing list of 25,000 and perhaps understandably, this causes MediaMonkey Android to lose the plot slightly, and it simply won't play the song. (Although I'm not sure if it is normal that MediaMonkey cannot play a playlist that long - although I've found it struggled too with an Auto-Playlist that had 11,000, but had no problems with that many previously; again, perhaps this is due to the large library).

So aside from now being able to handle a large playlist, the issue comes in trying then to play anything else - e.g. a selected album. I can browse my library fine, but cannot play anything - presumably because 'Now Playing' is still trying to process all the songs that had been accidentally selected before. Closing the app, clearing the cache or even resetting the phone does nothing to remedy it.

So I'm not sure if this is a bug (e.g. large library), or a feature request; but:

(a) Could there be a way to clear 'Now Playing' - e.g. by pressing a button in options;
(b) A way to select the default option (much like in the Windows version), so that those of us who wish to can have the default to be just to add that one selected track, and not every track in a playlist/album/artist list? - e.g. If I'm browsing tracks, and I click 'Like a Virgin' by Madonna, only that track is added to 'Now Playling' and not the entire list of songs?

I'm aware that long-pressing the track enables you to add the selected track(s) to Now Playing, rather than the whole list, but it's the accidental click of a song that clears 'Now Playing' and thus selects the whole, massive list that I'm really having an issue with.

Many thanks for such a great app and your continued work, I'd be lost without it!

Send a debug log from About after you experience these problems and respond here or in a Support Ticket with the logID.

I believe I may be having a similar issue, which has started within the past week. I am runing a Sony xperia XZ1c on anndroid 8.0. Also pro version 1.3.3.0831, library of ~12000 and considering a playlist of ~6000.

I am selecting to shuffle through unrated songs for the ~6000 tracks. Before this has taken maybe a second or two to populate the list and begin playing. Recently there is a significant delay, MMA will go to the player screen but there will be no artwork/time for the playing song. After a delay, upwards of 30 seconds, the song will begin playing. The artwork/details will still not have loaded and the payer is unresponsive. The notification will at this point have the details of the playing song/artwork but be unresponsive to input. I have noted that during this time the spinning circle present when scanning the library for changes is often present.

Eventually MMA will seem to go back to normal and work correctly after a period of being particularly slow with the above issues. However if the playback is paused and the device locked for a few minutes the same slow behaviour will reoccur upon resuming playing. This does not occur if MMA is left playing during the lock period.

When the player is unrespnsive changing the now playing to a small list from say an album appears to start the player responding much faster.

A few times MMA has stopped responding during this period or the app screen has gone blank (Not locking up the device itself).

I have sent a log HCTRNMQNWF during the unresponsive player state

After the update today from Google play store I am facing the same problem. Any way to roll back?

We've posted build 833 which fixes this to the beta track.

We haven't had time to do much testing yet, but we wanted to get it out for users who are experiencing this bug. Please let us know if it works for you.

Thanks!

Updated to 1.3.3.0833, the situation now seems to have been partially improved.

Upon starting the playlist the music starts playing after a short couple of second delay as it did before the issue started. The are/details of the current song are loaded as expected. However the player remains unresponsive for a significant amount of time to skipping track/seeking. The play/pause does work during this period.

After some delay the player will start working correctly. The time it takes to achieve the working state is shorter than before the most recent update but is still in the range of minutes.

I do not seem to have any issues anymore with resuming a playlist after it is paused for some time as I did before.

Hi,

We're not able to replicate the problem with build 8033. We're initiating playback of 32,000 tracks, and only seeing a delay in response to prev/next/seeking of a few seconds (similar to MMA 1.3.2).

Can you send a debug log from the About screen after you experience this player freeze and respond here with the log ID?

Also, if you'd like, you can try out MMA 1.3.2.0824 to confirm that it actually performed that much better than 1.3.3.8033.

Please let us know what you find. Thanks!

Attached log ID - U61SPZSW85

If it makes a difference the process to replicate for me is;
- Rating -> unknown-> shuffle button -> try to skip song.

Phuler,

Have you updated to build 838? I can no longer replicate at all with this build...

Thanks.

Running 838 now, I also can not replicate. As far as I can tell the issue is completely fixed for me.

Keep up the good work.
