is mediamonkey becoming abandoware?

Re: Why lock the abandonware thread?
It probably was locked because all that needed to be set was set, and repeated and repeated and now repeated in this thread again. The point was made that the news should be updated more often and everybody agrees.
As for MediaMonkey 4, it is still in beta at this point, the Release Candidates still have to come. Everybody will need to decide for themselves on how comfortable they feel about using a beta version. Any testing and feedback is much appreciated though.
As this discussion is going nowhere this will be locked again.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll make sure that we post more often to the announcements.

Thanks, I'll look forward to seeing the updates. Unlocking the thread was a very classy move.rusty wrote:Thanks for the feedback. I'll make sure that we post more often to the announcements.

Re: is mediamonkey becoming abandoware?
I sure hope not. Media Monkey is far and away the best free music management system out there - IMHO
It took me a heck of a lot less time to manage a decent sized library (>50,000) than it did in trying to figure out itunes, Windows mediaplayer or Winamp. Plus changes are great and all but I look at itunes, Mediaplayer, Winamp now (granted I dabble in them only when needed) and it would seem to me you would have to figure out how to use these all over again (not that I ever di d in the first place which brought me to MM).
Sure there are programs since the advent of MM like JetAudio, Sonicstage, Spotify, the Godfather, Sonique, etc. & I'm sure they have their good points & weaknesses. I have been able to pick up MM's features and use them pretty quickly and easily and I'm always learning a new trick here and there. I do use Foobar on occasion because it does things (or at least I know how to do them faster) that MM can't.
One thing I have found is that if you just invest a little bit of time (very little for me in comparison of trying to manage my collection in another program) there is a lot of add-on's and scripts out there & you can make your own if your into that.
I am very grateful to those who do and then choose to share them - for my knowledge it would take me forever (maybe never) to do what some can do. So Thank You Very Much to all those out there who do share add-ons and scripts to make things easier! It is appreciated by myself and many, many others!
Here are a few places to look for new add-ons, updates, extensions, scripts or whatever one may call making Media Monkey more easy to use, etc.:

Re: is mediamonkey becoming abandoware?
I too would never have known 3.2.5 was out had I not popped back in today to check this thread and saw someone else had mentioned it. Clearly there is activity with the program, but again, the casual user still has no way of knowing this without going above and beyond what a casual user will likely do (often limited to a "check for updates" or "automatic updates" option in the program, or visiting the main web page and looking for "news" or obvious "current release" information).
Don't get me wrong, I'm delighted with what MediaMonkey does for me, and I'm not a particular fan of development just for the sake of it, but I think there's a practical advantage to some minor turnover to keep the main web page fresh and relevant -- even simply pointing "news" to some thread or other here on the obviously more active forum.

I didn't even realize there has been a new version out until I saw the latest post in this thread.Guest wrote:I too would never have known 3.2.5 was out had I not popped back in today to check this thread and saw someone else had mentioned it.
Interestingly, the post announcing the new version assured us in April that "the primary site links and home page will be updated on Monday."
Re: is mediamonkey becoming abandoware?
Social media sites like this are still growing quickly, you can tell by how many views this site gets! If anything I think Facebook should become abandonware but we all know it wont.

Maybe I don't want to go to facebook and twitter for information on MM. Seems like I did not send my money to them for a license. Give us current news and fixes here or admit that is has become abandoware.

"Here"? As in the forum? I'd say that's absolutely the best place to go if you're looking for news/fixes. Updates to the website have been more frequent lately as well. I don't see how anyone can say MM is abandonware when there is a new version in release candidate stages with hundreds of bugfixes, updates, and new features. Not only that, but anyone can download it and try it! WTF!dawaco wrote: Maybe I don't want to go to facebook and twitter for information on MM. Re: is mediamonkey becoming abandoware?
Well, the only news update so far is the incompatibility with the current iTunes version. No word on the impending release of MM4.
Re: is mediamonkey becoming abandoware?
If you post in the forum, I think it's safe to say that you must have noticed there is a whole subforum dedicated to beta testing.
A quick glance at it will show you that mediamonkey is in development.
( without any doubt possible since bugs are reported , fixed , tested on a daily basis and beta/ rc builds are public )
How in the world can you then post that Mediamonkey is abandonware? I don't get it dawaco.

Simple: because there are no updates on the main website. You can't expect the average user to browse through this forum imo.

Yes, we agree on that.Onweerwolf wrote:Simple: because there are no updates on the main website. You can't expect the average user to browse through this forum imo.
But here we have users actually posting on the forum. That's what I don't understand.

I think those are the users that don't give up after having visited the main page and make an account anyway to ask on the forum. I do wonder how many users there are that do give up after seeing the news section isn't updated.Dreadlau wrote:Yes, we agree on that.Onweerwolf wrote:Simple: because there are no updates on the main website. Yes, I honestly still think this is a problem for MM. We are talking about a commercial product after all.
For instance, I have a friend who I introduced to MM and she likes it a lot. She's not much interested in scripts and that sort of stuff so you won't find her on the forum unless she'd encounter a serious bug. However, I happen to know that the fact that MM4 can be installed portable is something that is tremendously useful for her. If that sort of thing is not communicated on the main page then she'd never know if I hadn't told her.
