There is a closed ticket http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=4823 for Android synch, but I can't see any improvement in MM4. Does anybody know what was fixed in that ticket at the end? I've already asked MM support but didn't get an answer on that. They only told me to post here, as they think a proper sync to Android still is a feature request. But it could be considered a bug IMHO, depending on the reason why the above mentioned ticket was opened/closed.
At the moment there is only an option "Auto-Sync tracks from the device to the PC". But it syncs back entire files, which doesn't work with "Level volume when synchronizing", and of course I wouldn't like it to have my original files overwritten by levelled or converted ones.
This limitation can be considered as a bug IMHO.
So MM should have the option to sync tags and possibly new files.
Auto-Sync should work like this:
1. Read tags from existing files on the phone
2. Optional: read playcount file in iPhone or Songbird format (see e.g. PlayerPro for Android).
3. Check for any differences to the MM database for those tracks.
4. Update tags in MM database according to the phone (if it is empty in MM)
Optional: only if it is newer on the phone.
Optional: select fields to be synced.
Optional: ask user first.
5. Optional: copy new files from the phone to MM (that were added from external sources, e.g. downloads).
Optional: Ask user first.
6. Continue with Auto-Sync (sync files to portable device)
As a temporary workaround I've created a script to do a part of this: SyncBackRatings, but of course I still hope that such a functionality can be integrated into MM Auto-Sync.
See the wish Auto-Sync tags from device to PC as well, as this whish isn't specific to Android phones but can - besides the play count issue - be generalized for all portable devices in mass storage mode (MSC/d_USBMass1.dll).
