Reduce number of folders when syncronising tracks

Postby nlmvdn » Sat Jun 23, 2012 9:49 am

I have troubles to find my synchronised track quickly. The problem is that my carstereo accepts 32GB SD cards, but however only a maximum of 1500 folders. I normally auto-organise files using <Genre>\<Artist>\<Title>, but when I export a lot of compilation albums it generates more then 1500 folders. On the other hand if I skip the folder <Artist> it is impossible to navigate quickly to certain tracks. If it would be possible to 'group' several folders into 1, for example only the first 1 or 2 characters of each <Artist> folder, it would reduce the numer of folders and files are easier to navigate. For example: if I could export using \<Artist#-#>\<Artist> - <Title> where in # I can set a range for instance 1-2 for the fist 2 characters. Then track 'Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved.mp3' would be in folder /Ma/Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved.mp3, together with Marvin Gaye, Mary J. Blige, Massive Attack, etc...

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Use <Album Artist> instead of <Artist> to reduce the amount of folder various artists albums create (this only works if Album Artist is tagged correctly). You can also use <Artist:2> (or <Album Artist:2>) to create a 2 letter folder for Artists.
