Native ASIO out

Post by Tumpin »

Secondary request is for native ASIO support as an output. I have found a nice ASIO plugin to use but it took a bit of searching and playing around to get it working nicely. Maybe native ASIO could be added as a Gold only feature to entice people to upgrade?

For anyone looking for Asio out I use this plugin from http://otachan.com/. It has gapless mode (So stops any clicks if your DAC does that) and also it has really good re-sampling up to 192hz.

Site is in Japanese but follow the link and install like any other MM plugin.

Asia natively built into MM would be great! I have been using MM for years and love it so much that it is my only reason for sticking with Windows. But I am also very keen on very hihg quality audio. There is software out there (like Album Player) that alles at audiophiles. It would be great to see MM begint able to adress these listeners as well!

MM already has WASAPI output which allows for exclusive/bit perfect output. What's the advantage of ASIO?

ASIO support

Post by deremder »

Hi,

I know ASIO is not part of Mediamonkey and must be installed by third party Winamp-compatible plugins. These plugins are really not the best and they seems to be out of date. They don't play gapless and don't work with JPLAY - far away from the MM WASAPI plugin.

ASIO is still relevant cause it's used for audiophile tools like JPLAY and Acourate.

Best regards

Hi,
As noted above WASAPI is more than enough for MMW as Lag is around 15ms , I have native ASIO 2.0 supported card (Tascam US 2x2) and I really do not see any difference in WASAPI/ASIO/KERNEL playback quality except WASAPI have Crossfade and Output lock.

Native ASIO playback in MMW/MM5 is not planned in recent future.

Have you tried?
KERNEL http://www.happymonkeying.com/plugin.php?q=300111
ASIO http://www.happymonkeying.com/plugin.php?q=300021

Hi Pavle,

right, you can setup MM audiophile with WASAPI by using exclusive mode, switching the level playback volumn off and searching for the right cache time with tools like LantencyMon. The only difference to ASIO is (what I hear) that ASIO don't play gapless, even not in "gabless mode".

What I mean is to support tools like JPLAY, a player to optimize the output, and Accurate, a tool for room correction. This may not be important know, and the MM team has enough to do with the development of MM5, but it may be a goal for the future.

The current ASIO plugins are still working, even when I find them in strange and over ten years old japanese sites, where you have to choose between serveral versions, or in sub-tasks from Winamp forums. Maybe these versions do not need an update, but this does not feal very save.

Please, just keep it in mind.

Regards
Harald
