AutoPlaylist random filter wanted: "Choose every x-th song"?

Post by Toemmel » Sun Jan 24, 2016 4:41 am

Hi forum!

Since a very long time I'm looking for the following option:

I've configured a AutoPlaylist with several linked Auto Playlists. For example:

AutoPlaylist "Party" contains / is linking to
- AutoPlaylist "Pop" with all songs with "> 4 stars" (contain 50 songs) [OR]
- AutoPlaylist "Rock" with all songs with "> 3 stars" (contains 1000 songs)

So I get an summary AutoPlaylist with 1050 songs. But I have 20 times more songs ot "Rock" than of "Pop".

I'm looking for a filter "Choose randomly every 10th Rock song". So I can get 100 songs of "Rock" and 50 songs of "Pop" = in summary 150 songs.

Now I've discovered the filter "skipped #". But I don't understand its computation and I cannot find any documentation of it. And it seems to be not the function I'm looking for...

Any ideas or workarounds?

Best regards

Skipped# is how many times you skipped to the next file while playing it. So that's unrelated. What you seek isn't possible with AutoPlaylists. You have Random sort, but that isn't exactly the same.

That's a pitty!

But couldn't this be a good feature for further MM versions?

Anybody who is looking for the same or a related feature?

You can achieve the same thing by setting the sort order on your Pop and Rock autoplaylists to Random, then set your Rock playlist to 'Show at most' 100 files, and 50 for your Pop playlist. The the criteria for your main playlist is simply Playlist Is Pop/Rock with the sort order again set to Random.

That will give you a playlist with 100 random Rock songs and 50 random Pop songs.

Dear rivorson,

whether you believe it or not: I opened the AutoPlaylist dialoge hundreds of times, but I never noticed this option!!! I was focussed on the two list boxes all the time...

Thank you very much, you've just now solved one of my most important wishes in MM. I will in include you in my eveny prayer. :D
