laze wrote:So I did a full removal of all things MediaMonkey and then reinstalled MM 4 and the last.fm plugin. Started it back up, then shut down and copied my original MM.DB file (and that's it) back to the Roaming directory. It seems to not be losing scrobbles as it did before, but it is still double-scrobbling when I pause.

Updated - Spoke too soon. Turns out it didn't scrobble "Love Dreams" in the log below (it showed "Now Playing," but didn't scrobble).

Here's the log - the double-scrobbled song is "I'll Remember April":

This is MM4 build 1365, Windows 7 64-bit.
I've got a similar problem except it wont scrobble anything. It worked fine but yesterday it just stopped working on 1364 I upgraded to 1365 and the new scrobbler but it still doesn't work :(

Another piece of observational data - I've noticed that when it double-scrobbles a song, the next song that's played doesn't get scrobbled (and often the first song I play after starting MM doesn't scrobble either).

Definitely experiencing the same issues. On new play sessions usually the first track doesn't scrobble even though last.fm will show it as "Now Playing" it'll disappear and not show in the "Played" list. I get double scrobbles on pause a lot also. I'd say my experiences are right in line with previous users. I'll take a semi functional scrobbler over using anything OTHER than Mediamonkey, but I'd love to see this corrected in a future build or future last.fm plugin.

This might not be an issue with MediaMonkey's extension. I searched the Last.fm forums for this, and there have been a number of people describing similar problems with the official Last.fm Scrobbler all month. I encountered it myself in foobar2000 and at first thought it was because I recently reset my Last.fm listening data. As long as MM's scrobbler reports "Submit OK" or the official application reports "track scrobbled", issues with tracks not showing up on the profile might just as well be server-side.

I don't know - it seems pretty specific to MM's extension to me. My foobar2000 installation is scrobbling perfectly, as is MOG from the desktop.

Haven't heard any word on this recently - is it being looked at? I've noticed that I've pretty much stopped using Mediamonkey recently because it can't scrobble correctly. (I'm sort of obsessive about that, if you couldn't tell.) Shame, too, because I MM is by far my favorite player and MM4 is otherwise quite good.

Can we expect a fix for this soon? Is there any additional info I can provide beyond the logs I've posted that would help?

Is there some reason it'll work fine with Last.fm program aka winamp plugin?

The legacy Winamp plug-in works, but only partially. It doesn't submit data directly but use the Last.fm Client - if the client displays artist and title, scrobbling will definitely work. As far as I know though, it won't work if the tags contain Unicode symbols, which is why the new native add-on would in theory be recommended.

I have it scrobbling now but it's being a bit funny. What i did to get it to scrobble was:

Originally having the extension last.fm scrobbler installed for current user I went about installing it again. On vista, I ran MM on admin but i also set it's compatibility to run with "Windows XP (SP2)". I then installed last.fm again but for "all users" and restarted it and scrobbling seemed to work.

I have no error message when loading MM, and the scrobbling works with the gen_LastFMScrobbler file existing in the program files area. However this file exists in the appdata area too with duplicate files in both the program files and appdata area. In the appdata area I did notice a log file "LastFM_log" and a cache file "LastFM_Cache.DAT" finally existing.

Big problem though, it doesnt scrobble the first song I listen too. What it does instead is it scrobbles the 2nd song i listen to instantly, and then shows the same song as "just-listening" which is completely wrong. When the 2nd song finishes, it then scrobbles the next song that starts instantanly, with again the same song as "just-listening", but the previous (2nd song) doesnt get scrobbled twice. So there's no double scrobbling but it it's like it's lagging a song behind. In maths terms, instead of scrobbling at the end of the nth track, it scrobbles the start of the nth+1 track whilst showing the nth+1 track as just-listening.

I thought this was because two last.fm plugins were installed, so i uninstalled the one for "current user" and i still got the above weird scrobbling.

Any ideas??

Uninstalled completely and removed .dll from mediamonkey install path...
installed via user only... logging no longer works... submission no longer works... doesn't even remember my username/password :evil:

Seems to be looking in C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey for files that never seem to be created...
Still looking at code to see what I can change outside of dll...

Using Process Monitor from SysInternals, MediaMonkey is soooooo messy, ugh.

//EDIT//
ok first unusual thing that's happening is that when you re-open mediamonkey it actually deletes the username/password that is in mediamonkey.ini that was previously saved.... uh.... looks like a dll error to me :S

//edit//
Log is now updating sucessfully if I move scrobbler dll to program files directory, but username/password keep getting reset every time program is exited. Still no scrobbling.... seems like it has to be installed globally to save pass.... STILL NO ACTUAL SCROBBLING EITHER WAY

I think that is the way for most people though. Running MM in admin mode when installing or removing add-ons is recommended, if not required, anyway. Most people don't have the problem of getting the add-on installed and to run or actually scrobble, but that the scrobbling is very unreliable.

I don't personally know about it not scrobbling the first track only, in my case it seems to be much more random. I have listened to a whole album from start to finish, "Now Playing" always working correctly but not a single track scrobbled. I closed MM and started a new session, and started to listen to some other music. Then suddenly, the fourth track of the first album I listened to in the previous session, and only that fourth track, was actually scrobbled, but with a timestamp of about an hour before I even started listening to the first track of that album. In short, scrobbling for me is completely bonkers, it scrobbles about 1 out of 10 tracks I listen to, at seemingly random points in time and with off timestamps. Perhaps this is also the case for some/all of the people here who report that the plug-in won't scrobble for them at all?

This is a beta, both MM and the scrobbler plugin are in beta right now. The scrobbler plugin hasn't been updated in a while, which is why this issue still remains. It might hinge on changes needed in MM4 itself that are taking longer to do.
