Sounds like a bug to me.
Because, like I said already, windows has assigned your device as a hard drive, not a device. It's like it's being recognized as an external hard drive (which I'm sure you agree should not be recognized like a portable player by MM!)

Then why didn't it behave like this when I last used my device on MM3?

Maybe you didn't have rockbox on it then? I don't know. anyway it should be easy to check. How does the device appear in win explorer? As a hard drive with other drives (C, any external drives, etc) or as a portable device with the other removable storage drives?

I used this device with rockbox firmware in MM3.

Windows recognize my Sansa clip as a removable storage drive.

Not sure. I'll try with a flash drive when I get a chance.

I have another problem.

I have "sync random subset of selected files up to device capacity" checked in the auto-sync tab.

But Mediamonkey didn't synchronize the tracks randomly. Instead it began to fill it up in alphabetical order. :-?

I tried with a flash drive but it worked okay, so I can't reproduce. I think it's something to do with the way windows handles your device.

Dreadlau, do you still have the "USB" options menu with rockbox? I know the default firmware has different USB modes you can choose from : auto-detect, MTP, MSC. It's under Settings -> System Settings -> USB Mode on the default firmware. Changing these will modify how your computer (and possibly MM) reacts to your device.

Having a related issue with my sansa clip+. When I try to sync it MSC mode, MM keeps trying to write the files to the micro sd drive(G:) not the internal storage (E:), so the synch comes back as a fail to write problem since I don't have a micro in the slot right now. However when I try to synch it in MTP mode it works fine with no errors. I don't remember why at this point, but there was a reason why I wanted it synched in MSC mode. I tried to assign the drive in the usb mass.dll under the options but it didn't make a difference under MSC mode, still tried to write it to the micro sd drive(G:).
Wondering if this is a bug, or maybe cuz I have rockbox installed. Haven't used it yet though but it's there to use when I get the drive synched. Still been using the original firmware since I'm more familiar with it still.
Wondering if anyone else is having that synching problem to the wrong drive under MSC mode with a Sansa Clip+? Any advice?

That's because the 'sync random subset' function doesn't randomize the sort order--it just chooses a random subset of the selected tracks to sync. Wouldn't it make more sense to use a Playlist if you wanted a specific randomized order?

76firefly,
Have you managed to work this out with recent builds? i.e. is MM syncing to the correct drive?
