Basic Search won't let me finish typing

I have been using mediamonkey for a long time but for the past 6 months to a year or so I have been having trouble with the basic search feature.

Basically whenever I click on the search in the main interface and try to type something, the cursor's focus will automatically shift to somewhere else and won't let me finish typing. I don't think there's even an option to turn off "on-the-fly" searching. Regardless, I've searched and waited a long time and tried reinstalling multiple times through multiple version and still with no luck. I love mediamonkey but if I can't get past this soon I'll have to find something more basic but that will let me search more easily.

Has anyone else been facing this issue? Has anyone found a solution to the problem. my most recent install attempt was with MediaMonkey_4.0.6.1501 on a Windows 7 laptop (lenovo Y460).

No, I just installed it as is from the website.

Could you be leaning on the mouspad and have the mouse "click" somewhere else? Also check hotkeys (Tools > Options > Hotkeys) to make sure you haven't enabled a hotkey combination that causes this.

I don't know if your first comment is trolling or if that's actually the type of people you're used to dealing with. In either case, yes I checked that, I've also checked that the computer is on, tried turning it off and on, and made sure that there aren't angry baby chimpanzees stomping on my keyboard.

As for the second part of your comment. All my hotkeys are whatever is set by default. I looked through them and did not see anything that would affect it.

I basically think it's an issue with search loading my results after every letter. I wish there were an option to load the results after I press enter instead of it trying to 'organically' update the search results and changing the focus of my mouse cursor to somewhere else on the screen.

I'm really baffled as to what might be the problem as it seems everyone else is fine. Is there really nobody else facing this issue?

I see help is lost on you. I actually have a laptop with this problem.

I too have a laptop that has similar symptoms from time to time. Mine gets fixed with the following steps:
- shut the computer down
- unplug the computer from the ac supply
- remove the battery
- depress & hold the power button for at least 30 seconds
- reconnect the power & all is well again

The issue is due to a build up electric charge and it is not cleared by rebooting or shutting down. Holding the power button drains the remaining electricity. Neither the problem or solution is obvious, but it does work for my laptop
