Info about Glided - Discussion

Post by Morten »

As of MMW 4.1 Skin is not distributed with installation but can be downloaded from Addons site HERE

As you should have noticed, Glided is now default skin in MediaMonkey v3.0 Alpha 5. It have been hard keeping it from you and telling some people that the skin has been postponed to later in the process of MM 3.0 and such.

Anyway, it's now released and you can all play with it in the latest Alpha which can be downloaded here.

Screenshots;

Information about the skin;
- This skin is a collaboration between me and Petr. Graphics are by me, coding by Petr.
- This skin features a cool function which is L/R-visualizer in the Volume Bar. This will automatic resize according to the position of the volumebutton.
- What also is pretty dominant is a Spectrum Analyzer in the information panel.

Where is this skin headed?
The plan is to let this skin evolve with MM3 as it goes into beta and RC-stages. This is not a promise-list, but more of a wishlist from my side. Four things which are high on the priority for the next changes in my skin are;

1) Real Vista-compatibility; Menus, Dialogs, dropdown menus in Vista-style when you're using Vista and XP-style when you are using XP.
2) There is current a big empty area if you're using a high-res screen. Don't worry, it would most likely be used by an area where you can switch between a playlist-viewer (custom) and a lyrics viewer. Of course, if you have any ideas to what this area can be used for; send me a PM.
3) Spectrum analyzer isn't possible to turn off as of yet, but the plan is to make it. It will also be possible to switch (in the future) between different visualizers.
4) Album-art area will be polished with overlays and transparent areas instead of white areas.

Wrapping it up, I would like to thank Petr for his amazing work and patience during this process. I haven't been the easiest skinner out there, and have demanded quite many new skinning features which I'm sure you'll benefit from in either way. I would also like to thank Rusty. It was his call that this was to become the default skin; I actually didn't want it to be.

I hope you like the skin, and I hope you're enjoying Alpha 5 as much as me. It's a great leap from Alpha 4, and it shows pretty well where MM is headed.

/love

Am I correct that its using the WMP11 miniplayer and microplayer atm?
And the open space you are talking about is the space to the right of the title yes?

Random comments:
WTB AutoDJ Button somewhere....
Move the rating stars to the left rather than centered... looks a bit wierd hi-res atm, I think it would look better over the title =)

Its got a mixed up look of not finished yet.
Where is the mini and micro players for this skin?
Why is there album art on the default player when there is
album art in the list view area?
What is that moving under the album art on the player?
I'll bet you didn't want it the default skin because it won't be seen by most users now.

I'm sorry but I'm probably an exception :(
I don't like it for two reasons, mainly.

1st. On full view the player is stuck at the bottom and cross the screen... that doesn't look that cool when using wide screens :(
Is there a possibility of making it fit in the middle like it is possible to do with Casino Orange?

2nd. Another issue is that the corners are extremely rounded when the window is maximized.

Besides that, and if I make the sacrifice of forgetting the WMP tendency, the colors are pretty cool and it DOES look very nice but please... if people want WMP they should use it and make the player movable, please, please? :)

Cheers,

i don't know i don't like the rounded corners either

the colors are too much contrast between the player and the list view backgrounds with the exception of the tree background.

that makes for a blinding thing to see by washing out the player when you are trying to see what is on the player.

if the list views backgrounds for the library and the now playing list were the mid toned gray of the players infomation screen
that would balance out the harshness of it.

the floating player is the wmp skin he did. which does give the default media monkey skin an uncompleted look to it.

the floating and miro players should be the same as the main player on the default skin. and not mimic any other player, doing it that way will keep poeple from calling mm a copy cat.

having the album art on the main player is redundit since the theme has the option window for the album art.

copy this player mskn and player ini file put them in the floating player folder, delete the floating player's mskn and ini. then rename the ones you copied from the player, to the float player.

go back in to the player's ini file and remove the album art section and unlock the player from being docked in the lower window.
the locking is what is keeping it on the bottom.

if you want it locked on the bottom then change the size of the player to a fixed size of around 700 pixels that will allow the users of the skin to dock another window in the lower right dock area beside the player. like i did on my trucking and the esthetic skins main player.
that should help with the above request to put the player in the middle again.

*drool*

It looks really good Morten, well done! :D

I love the trailing seek-bar :P

No complaints... Yet... 8)

This skin has gone really far from:

But I think you should bring back the 'ring' that is around the play/pause button (looks nice) and perhaps even the stop button?

no blake i don't mind that rounded corner that is not what we were talking about.
the ones that are too rounded are the ones on the theme up in the left and right corners, atleast that is what i was talking about.

Exactly.

By the way... my notes were on a positive perspective.
I just hate that one of the most positive aspects of MM, letting you put the gui the way you want to, being "lost" 'cause it tries to be "alike" something that should be trying to look like MM.

I said on another thread... I Love Media Monkey and I donated for it 'cause I consider it the best reunion of Winamp and WMP best features but I certainly don't like it try to be the same!

So.. final words will me... keep up the good job guys... you are in a good way to MM simply perfect. Don't try to copy others, no need to!

Answers to those who have submitted a comment here.

@Psyker7; It will have a miniplayer and a microplayer, but tell me; how easy is it to provide this in less than two weeks? In addition, there are some errors in miniplayer-module which is keeping me from making it (semi-transparent areas). Ratings I think is better centered. It's much easier to quick navigate to the rating when it's centered rather than left-aligned in my opinion. But of course, these things may change.

@Guest; Hmm, where to start? First of all, this skin is NOT finished. However, it's on a good way of being it and the only thing which can be settled has 95% finished is actually only the player-area. Album Art is where it is because I want it to be on the player. There's nothing moving beneath the album art, maybe it's when you have something like this "Track 1023 of 10344". Then it will move. This will be adressed in later builds, but it really is code issue inside MM. Nothing I can do about it. And you're wrong; when the skin is default, it will be seen by 100% of the users who install Monkey. The reason I didn't want it to be default is a completely other reason. It's just because I think that this skin won't be liked by 100% of the MediaMonkey users. Something which some of the replies given here reflects.

@Rockas; Well, there are plans (only from my side atm, but I'll make Petr enable it) to make the player itself un-dockable. This requires some additional coding and will be retrievable from the player's right-click menu. Rounded corners also need additonal coding, because there's no differensation between un-maximized and maximized windows. And yes, this skin has taken inspiration from WMP11, iTunes 7, Windows Vista but seriously; my main focus has been making it Vista-compatible (another reason to why not everybody's gonna like my skin). Just for fun I'll take a quick comparison between WMP11 (-) and my (*) skin;

Similiarities
- Vista system-buttons
* Vista system-buttons
- Docked player on the bottom
* Docked player on the bottom
- Sorting panes with black glyph (blue)
* Sorting panes with black glyph (grey)

Disimiliarities
- Centered buttons
* Right/left aligned buttons
- Information panel on the left.
* Centered information panel.
- Outer glowing play-button
* Inner glowing play-button (they are both glossy though)
- Black and blue
* Orange and dark grey
- No information about playlist position or kbps of the currently playing track.
* Information about playlist position and kbps of the currently playing track.

I hope we can lay that discussion flat - the similiarities between WMP11 and Glided is because they both have the "Vista-feel".

@rovingcowboy; Well, I knew from day one that your screen wasn't so good on different scales of grey. And no, this skin will be in orange and dark grey. If you don't like it, install one of your own. It's as simple as that ;) And also, many are commenting that WMP11 miniplayer and microplayer is following this skin - would you rather don't have the possibility to view these modes? The skin is simply not finished.

This skin will evolve with MM3 and is not finished in any case, but it is included with MM3 Alpha 5 for some reason. If you're angry that this skin is default, take it up with Rusty. It's his fault. :p

As a closer, I would just say that I understand that not all people like this skin. One simple solution for you guys is to install another skin. Or even better - Make your own!

who said i was angry morten?

i just voiced my concerns like every one else. only i told you how to make the float player the same as the main player in 4 easy steps and in less then 5 minutes.

i agree there are things to be done and since you think i am always complaining or arguing when i say any thing about your skin. I'll just use mine as you know i mostly would anyway.

you did call the thread "Info about Glided - Discussion"
