Download- You will need to import the the theme, unfotunatley I dont know how to make a .msz file. if you copy the contents of the zip into a folder under the skins folder you can use this as well.

Any future suggestions would be great

making an msz file is simple it is a zip file of the skin's files not folders.

same thing with the theme just zip up the files and then change the extentsion to .msz thats all you do to make the file.

you have to include all the files for the players as well to make a full skin set.

looks good so far. keep it up and make a player skin now they are easier then the theme.mskn file.

so your hard part is done :D great to have more skinners in the troop.

Hey Roving,
Thanks for the suggestion on the .msz , I thought that was how, but for some reason, my version of winzip doesnt let me change the extension. will figure that out. I had a couple questions, what do you mean by player skin? Is that the seperate player.mskn? Also how could\would I create a player and its skin? Just trying to understand the parts of everything to come up with some new skins/themes

Thanks is advance

just zip the file up.

after you are done you then right click on the zip file and then click on rename and change the zip to msz it has nothing to do with the zipping program

yes the player skin is made the same way you did the theme.

there is a mskn file for each of the four players.

each media monkey 3 skin is really a set of 5 mskn file skins.

1 theme mskn.

1 player mskn.

1 floatingplayer mskn.

1 microplayerH mskn.

1 microplayerV mskn.

each is made the same way with a map of the images.

you take my newbies skinning walk through for mm 3, its at the wiki i tell you in fast / semi fast steps of how to make the skins by doing over laying of images on to another skins images.

it is not hard to understand its just lots of tidbits to remember to do.

i also tell you how to set up the folders for each mskn files.

http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... h_for_MM_3

look at that read it and then you will understand more of what to do. any questions ask away I'll try and or some others will try to pin down your confusion and get it unconfused.

Hi Mo,
Thanks for the tips, I looked through your article the first go around and it was very helpful. I will continue to try my hand at this and see what happens. I had noticed that on some of the skins that I didnt see a player.mskn in the msz file, that is where my confusion was. And once I get the hang of it and good ideas should be good to go. Thanks for your help.

some of the eariler skins were zipped up with just the files in a folder. which can mess up people trying to learn with over laying images. if you were using the mm 2 version skins there is only one mskn file. mm 3 uses the five mskn files.
:)

you can download any of my skins that use the long player (small screensize skin on my screenshot page)
you then can change its msz to the zip and put them in its own folder. you will then see the different images and files needed in making the mm 3 skins.

some of them i have left in all the images i did not use. just so someone could see what is going on with, over laying skinning in mm 3 because that is the only way i could learn to skin.

one of the neatest made skins i did was tangerine monkey.
the image map in there is very simple and to the point.

jungle monkees skin has lots of the images ever made on the skin if you look at it you can see what ones are used. and what ones are not needed.

you can cut the image map down to a low number of images on it. but some of the images must be on the map to be found like the rating star or the buttons for the player.
