Adding but Not Adding?

Post by fncll »

This has been a long-standing MM problem for me-- maybe there is a solution. When I use the "Auto Organize" files to add and move files from my computer to my library it only *sometimes* actually adds them to the DB so they can be found when searching, etc, though it always moves and renames them fine. Most of the time I have to add and rescan the directory to get it to really be entered.

On a similar note, the file monitor only sometimes "sees" tracks that have been added, even after waiting 24 hours or more...

These could be related?

I'm running MM 2.5 latest gold

I don't know about the file monitor, but I don't think the Auto-Organize is intended to add tracks to the library.

However, if you auto-organize tracks into directories monitored by the monitor, then they probably should be added.

On the file monitor, do you have something set up for one directory and all its subdirectories? Or do you have a bunch of subdirectories set up. It might be missing if you have a new folder being created that isn't part of the scanning hierarchy.

Ultimately, what you are noticing could be related, but you might want to make sure that your file monitor and your auto-organizing are putting things into locations where they are actually supposed to be scanned.

I think this has been brought up before and is/was a bug.

Auto-organize, from a my computer node that is NOT in the library, when organized into a MONITORED LIBRARY folder, is not properly picked up.

The main work around, is to create add your files to a monitored library working/scratch folder FIRST, then cleanup the tags and auto-organize to your preference.

This is how I have always done it myself...

New files go to a \music\incoming or \music\ripped, after which tags are done and art added, then organized into a \music\new folder, after which they eventually get organized to their final library spot.

Thanks, the temp monitored folder is a good idea! Will save me a ton of time! Hopefully this functionality will get fixed/changed in the future-- it makes sense to me that no matter where a file is auto organized "from" since it is going into the library the monitor should pick it up!
