What field should I put the record label in?

Post by Guest »

Nearly all my music is electronic a lot of which I've recorded from vinyl to WAV files. I want to keep track of the record label that each album/track was produced under. What is the best field for this? Currently I tried using a custom field, but I really want something that is actualy stored in the file as a tag, and the custom fields are not stored inside of wav files.

I was thinking publisher, but there is no way that I can see to use the "Auto tag from filename" to fill in the publisher field, and there is no option for a Publisher column in the track list.

Try with Steegy Extract Fields Script it should give you the control needed.

Yeah I actually just found that. So what I'm doing now is extracting the Label from the file name, into the custom 1 field, and then using Extract Fields to copy custom 1 into the Publisher field. Is there a faster way to do this?

Directly Use Filename in ExtractFields to get what you want.

But I don't want the entire file name just the label name. My files names are formated like this.

<artist> - <title> - <label> - <album>.wav

Currently not, but I've been looking for some easy solution (Peke, see pm).
Extensions: ExternalTools, ExtractFields, SongPreviewer, LinkedTracks, CleanImport, and some other scripts (Need Help with Addons > List of All Scripts).

I thought in the next version of MM they were going to open up access to all the fields?

it's incredible, but in my MM3 Gold version, everything can be selected in the normal field part (i.e. artist, album, length, etc.) but NOT publisher. I have a lot of information auto-tagged by Amazon about the Label (publisher) and i would love this to automatically appear so that i can look it at quickly, and sort it without any problems.

anyone any suggestions? please help!
