You should tick the "Overwrite previous backup" checkbox - this was added as an extra level of security to stop people accidently deleting files they didn't want to. If none of your other settings have changed, you can definitely tick this box! :)

Trixmoto:

This is one of the scripts that I use on a daily basis, I have it setup to back up at the shutdown of MM. With the addition of the checkbox whether or not to overwrite a previous backup, will it give you the option to select another location or will it just exit without backing up the files?

Oh, ok ... that worked ... 'overwrite previous backup' makes it sound like it's going to overwrite the last backup I saved which I DON'T want it to do. :)

@nynaevelan - it just stops if the output path already exists. It was primarily designed for someone who only wanted to do one backup a day, so they can now specify the date in the output path and leave this field unticked.

@Vyper - i'm sorry the option text mislead you, as i've just said it just checks that the output path does not already exist, so if you're reusing the same path all the time (like I am) then you should tick the field.

Personally, I use "F:\Backup\MediaMonkey\" as my output path so I've always got the latest backup in there (therefore I have the overwrite field ticked). I then have the archive path as "F:\Backup\<Y><M><D>_MediaMonkey.zip" so that I get a separate backup each day which allows me to restore to any point - very useful when testing new scripts!! :)

Hmmm .... I see what you did and why you did it ....

I use a different output path each time so there's nothing for the backup script to overwrite. I'm sending it to an empty folder and since there was nothing in there when the script started doing its thing, you can see how I got confused when it stopped.

Viper:

I've noticed that you cannot have the folder created even if it is empty, this should prevent the script from stopping. At least this is happens during my observations. If I could get the archive portion to work, I would be content.

Do you think the backup should continue then if the folder is empty?

I would like it to continue if the folder is empty or if not ask for an alternative location. Right now I like to keep 3 backup copies, especially since I am jumping back and forth between 2.5 and 3B. So what I do is rotate the backups amongst the three folders. So I will empty out the files of the oldest backup and run the backup in the now empty folder. It's no major deal for me to just delete the folder if it is difficult for you to add this feature, but I would like to use the overwrite since I have it setup to backup at shutdown.

I agree with nynaevelan for exactly the same reasons. I keep 2 or 3 backups also.

If you're putting it to a vote, then I vote yes, it should continue if the folder is empty. :D

Small bug with backing up auto-playlists

Postby Krace » Tue Sep 25, 2007 4:05 pm

First let me echo everyone else's praise on this fantastic backup tool. It's really saved me a few times. I ran across a bug and figured it was worth it to post it.

So I downloaded and installed both this plug-in and the "backup playlist" plug-in so that I can get a good copy of my auto-playlists.

After a bit of frustration I realized that if you tried to back up an auto-playlist with this Backup Utility and that playlist has an apostrophe ( ' ) in the title, the backup will fail saying that there is a missing operator.

I have not tried other characters but I know the apostrophe does it every time to every auto-playlist. Regular playlists seem unaffected.

Thanks again for your work on that huge array of scripts I saw on your website

A quick fix is to open up the script in a text editor and replace line 82:
Code: Select all
mmrsetPlaylistName = mmrset("PlaylistName")

With this line:
Code: Select all
mmrsetPlaylistName = Replace(mmrset("PlaylistName"),"'","''")

@Krace - thanks for reporting this.

@Bex - thanks for suggesting this fix!

I'll get it properly fixed in the next version. I expect ( [ ), ( * ) and ( % ) will also cause troubles.

Actually it won't in this case. They only make trouble in searches or comparisons.
