@SpaceFish are you sure that tracks are in MM Library? You each time do with different song Try with song that you see that scrobble Correctly Rush - 2112 ?
Can you do this:
1. Save this Script on Desktop and Name it Track ID.vbs
Code: Select all
Dim SDB
Set SDB = CreateObject("SongsDB.SDBApplication")

Dim MyVar
MyVar = MsgBox ("Track ID: " &SDB.Player.CurrentSong.ID &Chr(10)&Chr(13) &"Played #: " &SDB.Player.CurrentSong.PlayCounter, 0, "Track Info")
2. Start MM
3. Start Playback
4. Start Script from Desktop and It should Show you Track Id In library
5. Track ID should be >0 if Track is in library and -1 if not in Library (Note me if you find Track ID Negative and not -1 which I doubt).

Yes, they're all in the library.

I will try your test but in the meantime, I noticed something. None of the problem tracks retained their played counts, even after clearly updating the count in the Now Playing window, i.e. they played, the played count updated in the now playing window, but the played count didn't update in the library even after continuing to play tracks.

A Passage to Bangkok played but did not get scrobbled. Counter increased to 1.

Something I've noticed frequently since I started using MM is that I'll have random tracks with a 0 playcount. Since my library is new, and since I only listen to albums, I should never have a single track with a 0 playcount unless it's the only track on the album. I think it may be related to stopping and restarting playback whereby the restarted track is not recognized as having been played even though the now playing window updates. Something to think about!

Here's the results. I used the track The Twilight Zone as a control since it's shorter than 2112 (3min vs. 20min). We know that one scrobbled earlier.

3 tracks:
Rush - Tears (this one did not scrobble in previous test)
Rush - The Twilight Zone
Rush - Something for Nothing

I only played Tears all the way through as I found a -1 track ID upon restarting. I didn't feel there was any need to continue.

Code: Select all
Rush - Tears (Start Playback: Pressed Play button in Now Playing window)
Track ID: 22805, Played #: 0

22-02-2008 12:45:21: Last.FM Handshake Started
22-02-2008 12:45:24: Last.FM Handshake: OK
22-02-2008 12:45:24: Last.FM Track Submission: No need To Submit
22-02-2008 12:45:24: Last.FM NowPlaying: Update Started
22-02-2008 12:45:25: Last.FM NowPlaying: OK

(I forgot to paste the Track Played info here but the track scrobbled.)

Rush - The Twilight Zone (Stop Playback)
Track ID: 22803, Played #: 1

Close MM - Restart MM

Rush - The Twilight Zone (Start Playback)
Track ID: -1, Played #: 0

22-02-2008 13:00:30: Last.FM Handshake Started
22-02-2008 13:00:30: Last.FM Handshake: OK
22-02-2008 13:00:30: Last.fm Submit: Skipping Invalid File Tags
22-02-2008 13:00:30: Last.FM NowPlaying: Update Started
22-02-2008 13:00:31: Last.FM NowPlaying: OK

As you can see The Twilight Zone had a track ID before stopping playback.

Here is what the window looked like after restarting MM but BEFORE pushing play:

Hi, installed the plugin (the scrobbler one), and so far it seems to work well. I sent you a couple of e-mails about this plugin, you then mentioned that "Result will be that you will not need Last.FM client installed when using MediaMonkey" did you mean that you could scrobble without the software, or did you mean that you also can listen to streams in the future?

@SpaceFish
You will need to test More, to get results to us, Something is really strange happening on your Computer and what I read from your post there is maybe a bug which you were only one able to reproduce :( Good thing is that it looks that Scrobbler works Correctly According to design, except that bug I'll fix for next version.

@hermil
Yes You do not need Last.fm application installed. Re Streams: It is possible to get them an add support, but none of third party apps (I think that even iTunes do not play Streams) are able to Play, Rate Last.fm streams.

Having problems downloading MMIP-files because of the zip-extension used. Is that going to get replaced by the rar-format soon?

I hope not. I have no problems with mmip in Firefox and like that it's just an installation file. I would hate having to handle a rar file just to install a plugin or script. Perhaps an alternate download could be added but then that creates more work. The other solution is to change from mmip to exe. Isn't there a thread about this issue somewhere? I don't think everyone using IE has the zip issue.

What Morten means is that instead using zip to make the mmip file, it would be better to use rar, since then IE wouldn't rename the mmip to zip when downloading. The mmip file would work exactly as before i.e. get installed by MM with no fuss.
I also strongly support this change.
Advanced Duplicate Find & Fix Find More From Same - Custom Search. | Transfer PlayStat & Copy-Paste Tags/AlbumArt between any tracks.
Tagging Inconsistencies Do you think you have your tags in order? Think again...
Play History & Stats Node Like having your Last-FM account stored locally, but more advanced.
Case & Leading Zero Fixer Works on filenames too!

Ah, okay. Makes sense then.

one small point. Using UnZIP in Commercial Applications do not need license, but UnRAR do.

Sorry, it may be me that's slow, but will there be a possibility to play last.fm streams with the plugin in the future? :P

Legally no, License issues needs to be solved if we want to implement that in MM. Last.fm streams are licensed to last.fm player and for now no third party apps are allowed to supply that feature.

An observation on the troubles I was having after loading this plugin.

I'm new to this whole last.fm thing and the idea intrigued me so I started by registering and downloading the last.fm client.

After finding this plugin, I loaded it up and started checking my last.fm page to see what was happening. What was happening was nothing...

Ok, I went back and read this thread and found out that the last.fm client was not needed to run this plugin. Great! So I removed the last.fm client through add remove programs and rebooted as I normally do.

Back to media monkey and listen to a few tracks and check the last.fm page and still nothing scrobbling. Finally found the LastFM_Log.txt to check it out and it was empty. hmmmm...what next I ask myself?

Tried looking at what was loading up at startup and what to my surprise there was an entry for "C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" to launch "C:\Program Files\Last.fm\LastFMHelper.exe".

After disabling that entry from startup and rebooting again everything was ok. Scrobbling is now working fine except for those issues already brought up here.

My conclusion is there was some sort of conflict with the last.fm client.

Well, back to working on the library. :D

That's too bad, looks like I wont be able to uninstall my the last.fm software yet. What about iPod scrobbling, is that realizable?
