I don't think there is a way to do this within MCN, but you can accomplish what you want with MoDementia's View Manager script.

Re: Easy/fast nested nodes & FilesToEdit hiding (25Apr08)
I've checked through the Readme and I haven't found a method to create a node for Grouping. Can support be added for that field? I'm finding lately that I search for values in this field and it's a bit cumbersome when I know exactly where I want to go.
Basically what I want is a node that looks like this:
If there's some method currently in place that will let me create a node like that, please let me know!
Thanks,
Paula

chrisbod had requested this same enhancement in early August, but I never got around to it with my travel and my move from Windows to the iMac.
In any case, I dusted MCN off and implemented the "Grouping" level in just a few minutes
I have already posted it to the download link site.] ... just re-download.
Regards,
Steve

Redownload and reinstall the latest MM build, or is this a separate addon?
Thanks...!

Re: Easy/fast nested nodes & FilesToEdit hiding (25Apr08)
I'm hoping someone can help me with an idea I have. I'm not sure whether this script, or Magic Nodes would be better suited to it.
I'd like to create nodes based on instrumentation. I'd have a parent, then beneath it have sub-nodes for songs with interesting instrumentation (beyond normal guitar, bass, drums). Beneath that I'd like to have it sorted like Artist (Artist > Album > Song). So I'd be looking for something along these lines
etc.
I'm thinking that I would store all the instrumentation for a song in a single field (possibly grouping, since I don't use that, but I'm open to suggestion). Does anyone know if something like this would be possible?
Thanks,
Justin

Yes, this can be easily done with this script (and probably Magic Nodes).justin_f wrote:I'm hoping someone can help me with an idea I have. I'm not sure whether this script, or Magic Nodes would be better suited to it.

Once you install this script and add the info to the Grouping field in your song database, you would edit the .INI file to include a custom node like this somewhere under the "Add Custom Nodes" section:
Code: Select all
[Instrumentation]
level=Grouping
level=Artist
level=Album
level=Title
trackCriteria="(Grouping <> '')"

Steve

The answer you gave doesn't seem to work. I get the following message when I use it:
Code: Select all
Error executing SQL "SELECT Songs.* FROM Songs WHERE (Grouping<>")": no such column: Grouping (1,1)
Code: Select all
Violin;Accordion;Mandolin

Re: Easy/fast nested nodes & FilesToEdit hiding (25Apr08)
I put the info into the Conductor field and it works perfectly
I love it. Thanks a ton.

Justin:
You have to change this
to this
As far as the multi-values, do you have one of the multi-value fields not in use, maybe you can switch to that?

You have to change this
Code: Select all
trackCriteria="(Grouping <> '')"
Code: Select all

Re: Easy/fast nested nodes & FilesToEdit hiding (25Apr08)
Thanks Nyn. I got it up and running perfectly. In case anyone is interested in a node like this for themselves, here's what I did:
Justin
Code: Select all
;------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Instrumentation]
;------------------------------------------------------------------------
icon=Tempo
parent="Library"
;------------------------------------------------------------------------
[By Artist/Album]
;------------------------------------------------------------------------
icon=Artist
level=Artist
level=Conductor
level=Album
level=Title
trackCriteria="(Conductor <> '')"
parent="Instrumentation"
;------------------------------------------------------------------------
[By Instrument]
;------------------------------------------------------------------------
icon=Tempo
level=Conductor
level=Artist
level=Album
level=Title
trackCriteria="(Conductor <> '')"
parent="Instrumentation"

Re: Easy/fast nested nodes & FilesToEdit hiding (25Apr08)
Thanks, Nyn! I did not test it, and was not focused on the fact that the database field is "GroupDesc" as opposed to the user field title "Grouping" in MM (and that I coded in MCN).nynaevelan wrote:Justin:

But of course, since Justin needed multi-value support from MM/MCN, the "Conductor" field works better for him anyway
