Albums (A to Z) list view?

Postby andrew_1506 » Mon Jan 05, 2009 11:38 am

Let me start by offering an apology  if any of this has been covered before, I have searched and searched with little success, hence this topic.

My question relates to the right side of the MM 3 window which shows the track listing.

For every Track(Title) the Album is listed as well, for example

Album Title
Back to Bedlam Track 1
Back to Bedlam Track 2
Back to Bedlam Track 3

I would like to see just a single list of my Albums having tried to create an A to Z mask (if that is the right word) for example

Album Artist
Back to Bedlam James Blunt
Bad Michael Jackson
Call off the Search The Streets

I have had a go at modifying the Album Artist {A-Z] Album (by Year) mask from magic nodes for MM3 on the left had side where the tree structure is, along the lines of looking something like this;

A folder (2) - ABBA, Anastasia, etc
B folder (3) - Back to Bedlam, Born to do it, Bad, etc
C folder (2)- Call of the search, Can I call you, etc

Is it possible and if so how?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure I understand correctly, but the Album Art and Album Art with Details views might be what you're looking for. The Details view can't be modified and will show the album for each track.

This is what I was trying to sort out.

It shows as far as I can see, an album times however many track(Titles) are associated with that album, hence

Track#---Title------------------------------------------------Artist---------------Album-----------------------------Album Artist
2---------Could Well Be In-----------------------------------The Streets--------A Grand Don't Come for Free---The Streets
5---------Wouldn't Have It Any Other Way----------------The Streets--------A Grand Don't Come for Free---The Streets
2---------Moloko - Familar Feeling-------------------------Various Artists----Acoustic 3-------------------------Various Artists
3---------Michael Andrews feat Gary Jules - Mad World-Various Artists----Acoustic 3-------------------------Various Artists
4---------Zero 7 - Destiny (acoustic)-----------------------Various Artists----Acoustic 3-------------------------Various Artists

I would like to see is a single album list

Album------------------------------Artist
Acoustic 3-------------------------Various Artists
A Grand Don't come for free-----The Streets

Hope this make more sense, sorry.

click the column bar field on top to sort in the alpha order for that column you click on.
double clicking it will sort from z to a for that column.

i don't use the folders in the library i use playlists. but after you sort it, right click on the folder name you have selected in the left directory tree, and see if any option for update order is on the context menu. if so click it
and the column sort wont change,

i know that works in the playlist's node, which is what i use. :)

Thanks for your reply, the column sort just sorts all the tracks / albums as per previous threads.

There doesn't appear to be anything other than the standard options when right clicking on folder name which I took to mean the filename?

Thanks anyway.

If you only want the Album you can use View > Show Album Art which is the closest you can get to what you are looking for.

Excuse my ignorance, but could you not just right-click on the column header and remove any you don't want; in your example, leaving only the album and artist columns?

You could also look into the magicnodes script, which allows a customisable node tree (but not customisable details pane).

Looking for jukebox software that manages a large collection, has good album art integration and plays flac as well as MP3

you took wrong.

if i had said the filename i would have ment the filename 8)

what it looks like your image is showing though might be different then what i thought.? :-?

the folder name is just what i ment. in the left directory window it looks like you clicked on the albums folder icon
and that is what was clicked on to load the information in to the list view,

now if that is not the albums icon and it is a file icon then i am sorry i said the wrong thing. but i cant read what that says in the image it is fuzzy and out of focus,, :o

also dan i think they are trying to get it in alpah order, but i don't know about magic nodes i never figured that one out.?

as for the removing of the columns they could just drag them left and right to set up what they want to view if they can't remove them?

Thanks for the reply, been away for a bit and not had chance to get back on here. I understand now what you put above, but look, I found this node which I think was an MagicNodes version 2 and worked what I was try to describe above;

Albums AtoZ 0to9|child of:album\<album|trim:1>\<album and artist>

I tried to convert it to version 3 but got stuck and look for advice how to update it, please if can?

I think I see what you mean. I don't know why you thought that magic node used to work for you.

I think you just want to see, in Details View, in the main track window, each album on its own line. Not all the tracks from the albums.

That would be a neat thing to be able to do actually (perhaps maybe :-? ).

As Lowlander suggested, just using Album Art view will sort of do what you want, but your question is different. Album Art takes up loads of room.

The nodes are what are designed to achieve what you are talking about but you want the albums listed in the main window not the tree don't you.

I can't get my head around whether it would be possible with scripting or even worthwhile, though. MM can do so much already, you should probably try to learn as much of that as possible and see how you feel later on.

I think he needs something which is mentioned in viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36436, like this:

As I said in that thread, I like such concept, but it is not possible with the current MM version.
Magic Nodes 4.2 (2011-07-01) RegExp Find & Replace 4.3 (2011-07-06)  Invert Selection/Select None 1.5 (2012-02-04)  Export M3Us/Create Playlists for Child Nodes 3.6.1 (2012-01-09)  Expand Child Nodes/Expand All 1.1.1 (2012-02-13)  Event Logger 2.4.1 (2012-02-06)  Filtered Statistics Report 1.5.1 (2009-10-09)  Track Redirection & Synchronization 3.4 (2012-10-08)  Restore/Synchronize Database 3.1.1 (2012-05-31)  Find Currently Playing Track 1.2 (2012-02-14)  Queue List 1.2 (2012-02-06)  Add to Library on Play 1.0 (2010-10-20)  Tree Report for Child Nodes 1.1 (2010-11-04)  Update Location of Files in Database 1.3.3 (2012-06-12)  Inherit Child Playlists 1.0 (2012-01-16)
Add Currently Playing/Selected Track(s) to Playlist 1.1.1 (2012-02-06)
