I've created a first version of the wiki page here.
On the top of the page, there's a TODO list with things that should be added (by anyone!) to give the list extra value.
Extensions: ExternalTools, ExtractFields, SongPreviewer, LinkedTracks, CleanImport, and some other scripts (Need Help with Addons > List of All Scripts).

I hate to say it, but for obscure vinyl lp's that'll never be issued on cd or for those pressed in foreign countries and which won't likely be issued on cd, I use the Ebays for downloading artwork.

My Input

Postby handsomeabhi » Sat Jan 26, 2008 12:24 am

Greetings All,

Well just been through this thread & think it would be great to have these websites included in the auto tag feature. Of all those I think WiKi will be the best as it covers films & songs from world over.

Me being from India, would definitely want to include http://musicindiaonline.com for auto tagging songs from Bollywood (Indian Film Industry).

Let me know.

Best Regards,
handsomeabhi

Sites can be incorporated into the Monkey using Webnodes and WebSearchPanels.

Another site I just found today when looking for an album cover:

http://www.mp3search.ru/

Not sure if it has anything extra to add to the ones already listed but it's based in Russia so will probably have a few obscure titles.

Another one I found today.
http://www.letssingit.com/

It doesn't have at lot of obscure stuff but from my use of it so far it very easy to navigate and the search options are good.
It also has a movie soundtrack database.

Stupid Question

Postby baronzemo78 » Tue May 20, 2008 3:10 pm

This may be a dumb question but can I just enter these sites the same way I would for MusicBrainz in this link?
http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... _CD_Lookup

Is there a way to have multiple sites and choose the one you want to use?
New to media monkey and loving it!!!

Discogs

Postby dypsis » Tue May 20, 2008 3:25 pm

I have only just discovered Discogs.

Looks very good. And should only get better. :)

It doesn't appear to have lyrics though. :-?

EXCELLENT THREAD!

Postby MCSmarties » Wed Apr 01, 2009 11:11 pm

Hey people, this is a great thread. Definitely concatenate this information somewhere!

One of the hardest (if not the hardest) piece of information to find out IMO is the original release date of a song.
Even allmusic.com often doesn't have it... but anyway, back to topic.

tinana wrote:I hate to say it, but for obscure vinyl lp's that'll never be issued on cd or for those pressed in foreign countries and which won't likely be issued on cd, I use the Ebays for downloading artwork.

I agree 100% with you, been using that trick myself for a while.
Very often, sellers who sell really rare stuff will include a fairly high quality (or at least "largish" cover art), sometimes even liner information...

Couple of things you can do to make this even more powerful:

1. Narrow the search for music only. Pick the category manually, or use the following link:
http://music.shop.ebay.com/items/?_nkw=<search term>&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=11233
(separate multiple keywords with "+", for example use the term "rolling+stones")

2. Search for completed listings to greatly extend your chances of success!
The link pattern is:
http://search.ebay.<extension>/ws/search/AdvSearch
(where <extension> can be com, fr, co.uk, com.au, hk, ch...)
Then narrow the search to music and select the checkmark "... completed listings" (in whatever language you need!)

Unfortunately there are 2 caveats:
1. you can't search "all of ebay". You must separately search ebay.com, ebay.ca, ebay.fr, ebay... you get the idea.
2. you must be registered. Ebay you to sign in if you check the "search completed listings only" field.
What's nice is that your login works on all ebay localized sites (bet you didn't know you were registered to shop in The Philippines!)
What's not nice is that ebay won't transfer your login. You have to log in everywhere separately.

Obviously, this kind of involved search, even if it is extremely powerful, is only worth it if you're almost desperate... like I've been known to be on occasion... uh, often... :D

PS: Holy cow, I just realized this thread was long dead... sorry for resurrecting it, I don't know how I ended up here!

Re: Tagging help (Search Sites)

Postby MCSmarties » Wed Apr 01, 2009 11:20 pm

More sites that I have been using to tag my music - here comes the motherload.
The links are (very) coarsely categorized by genre.

Classical music
http://www.sonymasterworks.com/
http://www.karadar.com
http://www.classical.net/music/rep/lists/index.php
http://www.classicalarchives.com/index.html

Blues, Jazz, Country
http://www.redhotjazz.com/search/
http://www.lpdiscography.com/main2.htm
http://www.perfessorbill.com/ (ragtime and piano blues)
http://www.ragtimeradio.org/ (ragtime and piano blues)
http://www.heptune.com/lyrics.html
http://blueslyrics.tripod.com/

Pop / Rock
http://umdmusic.com/ "(Almost) Complete Database of the Pop Music"
http://www.oldies.com/
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/masses/ (French site with complete discographies of several dozen Pop/Rock artists)
http://www.rockhall.com/ (The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame - includes a list of "500 songs that helped shape rock and roll")
http://www.rockabilly.nl/lyrics/lyrics.htm
http://www.zonicweb.net/badalbmcvrs/ (A real gem: I give you the museum of Bad Album Covers!)

Foreign language Pop/Rock
French
http://www.archambault.ca/store/default.asp (good for info on rare French stuff)
http://www.encyclopedisque.fr/
http://www.bide-et-musique.com/ ("bides" in French are songs that are commercial and/or artistic failures, but tend to get stuck in your head...)

German
http://www.jpc.de/
http://www.secondhandlps.de/index.php
http://www.lpcd.de/0/overv_de.htm
http://www.germanrock.de/

Spanish
http://www.dtodo1poco.com/musica/index.php

Ethnic / World
http://worldmusic.nationalgeographic.com
http://worldmusiccentral.org/dokuwiki/doku.php
http://www.akh.se/indexa.htm (extremely complete discographies with tons of infos on each song - but limited to a few artists)

http://www.toronto-lime.com/music/index.htm
http://www.calypsoarchives.co.uk/

Soundtracks / Musicals
http://theatre-musical.com
http://www.arkivsong.com
http://www.soundtrackcollector.com

One more invaluable resource are of course the fansites dedicated to a particular artist, but these would be too long to list and of limited general interest.
Google is your friend, I often add "fan or unofficial" to my query which tends to do the trick.
