changing a process'es priority is not a solution, especially changing processes to real time when they are not designed to do that by default.
your recommendations to change priorities and 'cleanmem' are not only poor advice, they can also cause other problems in addition to being completely un-necessary to begin with.
gpzbc's problem appears to stem from some conflict with the soundcard and wireless, most likely DMA (or IRQ) conflicts as I referred to several posts ago.
Updated drivers (for either or both devices) may help, or moving the wireless card to a different slot in your computer may help.
In no situation will memclear help, and changing priority of anything will simply result in some other process not getting the resources it needs either.
Your computer like a fist full of sand. You can squeeze harder in one spot to stop the sand, its simply going to come out of another spot.

Re: 1242: Poor sound quality (crackling and popping)
the popping and crackling to me sounds like the effects got when my systems clean ram doing playing of a song so going to the cleanmem and setting the page file to get more room and changing the process's of them here on my systems got rid of the clicking and popping and other noises.
your right though it might not be what is going on with there's but until they do one of the above suggestions and find out nobody will know for sure.
but changing the priority s with that priority static program is good just need to watch what you adjust with it as i said and you say. it can cause trouble if you get the wrong setting with a windows process.
but i got it on all my systems except win98. and it is and has made monkey work lots better as he is now in need of more ram and more page file usage and more speed being allowed to him.

Re: 1242: Poor sound quality (crackling and popping)
Thank you for the advice Teknojnky and RovingCowboy. I appreciate it. I am certainly no expert but tend to to think that my problem isn't a lack of RAM since I am running 4GB of RAM on this computer and I always try to keep my computer as lean as possible.
I just checked and all of my drivers are up to date, so I don't think that is the problem. The curious thing is that it started about the same time that i installed the new wireless N router so it makes me think that is somehow involved. But I have no idea. In fact I am probably showing my ignorance right now.
The good thing is that it is not essential for me to use a wireless connection when my laptop is docked. And if I plug in the ethernet cable, the crackling and popping goes away. So that is a workaround, but I am curious about what conflict is causing the problem.

Re: 1242: Poor sound quality (crackling and popping)
okay so you said a little more here.
you plug in the e net and it goes away.
i'm thinking grounding is an issue now try taking the screw from the back of the case
one that is not holding the removable door on and one that is touching metal.
take a peice of wire, can be a couple strands of speaker wire you stripped the plastic off of.
twist them to make one wire strand, make sure they are long enough to touch the floor when on the computer
case and then twist them around the screw the same direction the screw
will turn when you tighten it back in to the computer.
then put the screw back in the computer. having the wire touch the floor.
see if the clicks and pops go away. if not then take the wire off the computer and put it on the wireless
hub see if that needs grounded.? it should only need to touch the cement floor or the carpet on the floor,
to keep the static away.
but since you said that. this is what i think might be going on now.
