Recommendation for DVD library management software?

Hey all...

I'm a long-time MediaMonkey fan, and I was wondering if anyone know of any good DVD/video management software that's as good as MediaMonkey.

I don't need a player, really, but just a good database management tool that is tailored to movie collections.

I probably just need a good Excel spreadsheet at first, but something more full-featured (and as well-made as MediaMonkey) would be nice.

Anybody know of one, or use one, they can heartily recommend?

Huh, I downloaded it and tried to install it. The .exe, when run, says "This program must be run under Win32" (even though I'm running it under Win XP (32 bit, of course).

When I download any archive from it, it says the archive is damaged and will not open it.

Doesn't make me feel very confident about the stuff there. Have you downloaded a recent version and tried to install it?

I also looked at the collectorz one, and also DVD Profiler by Invelos. They both use their own company's database to get info (as opposed to scraping free services like IMDB, Amazon, etc. like the Monkey does).

Ideally it's be a standards-based piece of software, as Media Monkey attempts to be, and not dependent on the continued existence of the software publisher to be as useful.

Hard to find things like that unfortunately.

Oh that's odd, it works just fine here...

They have a small but helpful forum there, if you're willing to ask for more help.

Recently I found and started to use Movienizer. I just love it! It has easily organized my movies, got all necessary info from the internet and technical data from discs. Everything is done in a couple of clicks automatically, awesome! Also I'd like to mention that I often give my dvds to my frieds and then forget where they are, now using Movienizer I can keep an eye on everything that happens with my movies:)

Thanks for the link! I have to say, I'm not very partial to interfaces that use what look like embedded browsers and try to look and act "webby". I'll give it a look-see, however.

They seem to have fixed it; the author said the files somehow got corrupted.

Well, I just tried almost everything out there, and I can't say I really like any of them. They're all full of so much GUI candy, and yet lack very configurable import-from-file abilities, that I'm a bit disappointed in them. I spent about 4 hours last night entering all my discs (still have hard-drive files to enter) into some Excel spreadsheets, with complete info about title, # of discs, # of sides, format, etc. and it would be silly to do it all again. These programs all seem very geared towards automatically searching on the net for you from a title, UPC code, or scanning a disk. All very good if you're just starting a collection, but damn slow if you wanted to enter 1000 discs, all of which you've already catalogued in a file.

Oh well - maybe a straight database program or spreadsheet will be fine for my needs.

Too bad, I was hoping for the same thing. I currently use http://www.coollector.com/ for my collection, he constantly updates his database and even takes in suggestions. I've been following this since near the beginning, it was evolved to a nice, simple program. He also made a portable version: http://www.coollector.com/388.html. You should check it out. Also, post here if you ever do come across that clone of Mediamonkey, but for videos.

I have used Griffith for over a year without problems.

It supports import from CSV but I have not used the function recently. I did use it when converting from a pretty mickey mouse spreadsheet that I was using prior to Griffith.

its more xbmc related, but there are several free apps to catogorize/organize/download art/info for movies/tv shows that might be helpful to you, like ember, media companion, etc.
