Help needed for transfer of playlist from old PC to new PC

Postby peterpoos » Fri Jan 29, 2010 8:58 am

I am hoping there is someone who can help me with my problem,because I do not really want to input details of over 8,600 files again.Let me explain my situation. My old PC was running Windows XP home edition 32 bit. On that PC I had installed MM version 3.1.0.1256. I was using MM has an index system for all my audio CD's.I placed the CD into the PC and MM did or did not recoginse it( if it was one I burned myself ). I then added the CD details to a playlist which I named as Audio CD's.All future CD's were of course added in this manner.When I had finished,all my audio CD's were listed in this playlist. I have now purchased a new PC which is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit-English.I still have the old PC with all the data/files etc on it. My obvious question is how do I transfer the old playlist( Audio Cd's ) onto my new PC.I do have the old PC backed up on my Clickfree device. I do hope I have given all the information needed for someone to help resolve my problem.Thank You.

Advanced Duplicate Find & Fix Find More From Same - Custom Search. | Transfer PlayStat & Copy-Paste Tags/AlbumArt between any tracks.
Tagging Inconsistencies Do you think you have your tags in order? Think again...
Play History & Stats Node Like having your Last-FM account stored locally, but more advanced.

Thank you Bex for the link.I got as far as "Save the file as MM_HDDSerial.vbs" but when I tried to save the file,a message appeared saying "You don't have permission to save in this location.Contact the administrator to obtain permission" Well,you know what I am going to say - I am a Administrator. Any idea what the problem is and how I can solve it. If you google this message you'll see lots of results returned.Many thanks again for replying to my initial topic

Save it to your user folder and then you can move it via windows explorer.

Thank you nohitter151 for your comments. This maybe a stupid question to ask but I'm going to ask it anyway. Does all the information posted on this thread work on any version of MM I decide to install on my new PC i.e.my version I have been using is older than the latest version.Sometimes you are happy with a version of a prog and are not keen for whatever reason on the latest version.What I am trying to say is I want to install my old version of MM including all the data/files etc onto my new PC.Will the "Moving MM to a new computer" do this for me.Thanks.

Yes. In fact this really will work best when you move from one computer to another but you install the same version of MM. If you go from MM 3.0 to MM 3.2 on the new PC, there might be problems. Even if you wanted to upgrade, I'd suggest you go from 3.0 to 3.0, then upgrade later to 3.2 on the new PC.

The script (and entire method itself) should work all the way back to around version 2.3 or so.

Thank you nohitter151 for your last reply. I have started afresh and have got as far as this :-
Open this file with notepad and copy the following lines and paste them onto the end of the file, then save.

Copy these lines into Scripts.ini:

[HDDSerial]
FileName=MM_HDDSerial.vbs
ProcName=Change_HDD_Serial
Order=99
DisplayName=Move Device Content
Description=Corrects broken links after exchanged harddrive
Language=VBScript
ScriptType=0

When I try to save,I get the following:-
Confirm Save As
Scripts.ini already exists
Do you want to replace it
Yes No

When I click on Yes,the following appears:-
Notepad
Access is denied
OK

This is just to confirm that my Scripts is showing as a Configuration Settings Type file. Is this correct?

I am at a lost as to what to do next.This is just to let you know that I am a Administrator.
Look forward to any comments/solutions anybody may have to solve my latest problem.Many thanks once again.

It is again because you do not have write access to the folder, you're being blocked by the UAC. If you move the file to your user folder, you can make the change, then move it back. You could also just disable the UAC (user access control) for Windows Vista or 7 via the control panel but that is up to you since it can lower the security of your PC.

I have just looked through all the posts on this topic and I am getting confused.In the instruction it states to copy the following lines i.e.
[HDDSerial]
FileName=MM_HDDSerial.vbs
ProcName=Change_HDD_Serial
Order=99
DisplayName=Move Device Content
Description=Corrects broken links after exchanged harddrive
Language=VBScript
ScriptType=0

Yet on page 4 of the Moving MM to a new computer thread it states and I quote

When you put the info in the scripts.ini file, you removed the comments right? It looks like this?

[HDDSerial]
FileName=MM_HDDSerial.vbs
ProcName=Change_HDD_Serial
Order=46
DisplayName=Move Device Content
Description=Corrects broken links after exchanged harddrive
Language=VBScript
ScriptType=0

Why does the above state Order=46 yet the line to be added states Order=99.
Does this make any difference? What does this line mean?

C:-OS button and then click OK.

Just to let future members know if they encounter the same problem,I moved the slider down to the bottom in the UAC and it let me save the file as described.Don't forget to move the file back to the Scripts folder and move the slider contol back up to where you had it.

It doesn't mean anything, you can ignore it.

Thank you for the last bit of information. I did not mention in my previous post was when you click on Move Device Content the box that appears states the following:-
Move Media Monkey's Device Content
from to C: OS

There was no wording in the from box.I am so sorry for not mentioning that.Now looking back,I feel so stupid to think that I thought it was not relevant. With a few fine tweaks,I feel we are getting close to solving my problem.Once again,nohitter151thank you for all your help and patience.
