I'm glad you got this all sorted and working. The "other path" is simply any folder you wish to be including in the backup. It was originally requested because someone wanted to include the folder in which they kept all of their m3u files, but if you have a common artwork folder it could point to that, or anything really.

Desertway wrote:2. Sometimes - but not always - I get the following error:

Abackup2.vbs

Microsoft VBScript runtime error

I've been getting this error, as well as another popup that says:

MediaMonkey.exe - Application Error
The Instruction at "0x585a881f" referenced memory at "0x585a881f". The memory could not be "read"

click on OK to terminate the program
Click on Cancel to debug

This error did not occur until I ran backup53.mmip to install, then closed MM. It occurs every time MM closes. MM starts up fine, but there's no sign of the Backup script actually being installed except for that error and that it's listed in the extensions area. There's no button for it, nothing in options, nothing I've yet found. The error stopped occurring when I uninstalled backup 5.3. When Desertway had this error, you guys said maybe something's blocking it. How would I go about unblocking it? I don't know anything about VBS and the errors are rather annoying (not to mention I can't actually use the script)....

You initiate the script by clicking "Tools > Scripts > Backup" - you are then presented with an options screen that allows you to add a toolbar button if you require one. This error means that your OS or anti-virus software is blocking the script file from running, so you should try adding an exception or running MM with raised priviledges.

I fixed it, though I ended up having to manually register the dll. I don't know why it didn't register on its own, but whatever cuz it works now :) Thanks for the help!

Could I ask what will seem to be a stupid question?

Once I have backed up the files, if I install MM on a new pc, or a pc with upgraded OS, do I just drag and drop the files I backed up and over write the recently installed files? And that will mean that all my stats, scripts etc will be preserved?

Yep, that should do the trick. Although your tracks will be "unavailable" as the harddrive id will have changed, but I think there's a script to fix that problem.

Thanks Trixmoto. Re the tracks being unavailable...I would imagine that if initially I did a re-scan of my files and got the new MM database up and running, so to speak, then close MM down, copy over the backed up DB file, mediamonkey.ini file and other files and scripts and restarted MM, the tracks would appear with their playcounts, stats, ratings, grouping entries, etc and my Magicnodes would also be there again?

Well the main reasons that the zip hasn't been created are...

1) The "XZip.dll" could not be registered, although I'd expect you to get a warning about this as well - to fix this you can register it manually.
2) The script does not have write permission to the folder that you have specified the zip to be created in - to fix this you can run MM as administrator or change the folders permissions.

Hope this helps.

How would you register it manually and/or Run MM as administrator?, I changed the folders permissions and that did not help.

You can register your dll by following these steps. Keep in mind that your filepath could differ slightly depending on your OS
-- Open command prompt by typing cmd.exe into start menu.
-- Right-click on the command prompt shortcut and select "Run as administrator"
-- Input this command: regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\MediaMonkey\Scripts\XZip.dll"
-- You can read about it on pages 16 & 27 of this forum thread.

To run MM as Administrator, just right click on the shortcut and select "Run as Administrator." You can even set it to always run as administrator by right-clicking on the shortcut and going into the "properties" menu.
