ID3 tag of first track missing

Post by Coix »

I have MM 3.0.2 installed.

It happens quite frequently that the ID3 tag info just disappears from the first (or first and second) track of an album. I have to re-enter these data again, although it is absolutely sure that the tags were previously there. It alwas happens with the first file of an album, sometimes with the first and second, but never with a higher track number. I can find these track under the "Untitled" node, without having any tag info in them.

ID3 tags are actually deleted from the files themselves, not only from the MM database, rescanning does not fix the problem.

I always move/copy complete albums to the auto-monitored folders. I have an impression that the tags are lost when I copy the new album to the auto-monitored folder while MM is running. Copying is made from one computer to another through WLAN. Can it be that MM tries to read the tags too early, when the full file is not copied yet? Does not sound logical, but I cannot think of anything else.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My number one suggestion would be to upgrade to v3.0.3 (the most recent version available from the website) and see if that fixes the issue.

Updates to the latest v3.0.3, no change. The error is still present.

I too am having the exact same issue with version 3.2.0.1294. Except that I would describe it slightly different in that instead of the ID3 tag being missing, the track simply does not show up with the other songs from the album, despite the fact that it physicaly exists on my hard drive and is playable via double clicking. Any feedback would sincerely be appreciated. TIA.

Update: I believe I now understand what is happening, at least in my case. The missing tracks are from single disc albums where the tags for the first song have an entry in the "Disc #" field, while the rest of the tracks from that same album have no entry in the "Disc #" field. In such a case, the first track doesn't show up in the library with the rest of the tracks from the album, likely becuase MM thinks it's a different album (despite the fact that the album title is identical for all tracks). To resolve this issue, I simply sorted my library by disc number then deleted any entries in the "Disc #" field for those tracks that I knew came from single disc albums. In the future I'll have to keep tabs on the Disc # field for my entire library to prevent this issue from happening again. I hope that makes sense.
