Change file extension from wma to mp3 by 3rd party SW

How could I change file extension from wma to mp3 by 3rd party SW without loosing the source link in MM? Without reimporting? Can I update the MM archive DB before reopening MM?

That would be tough to do, and would result in poor audio data. Why not convert with MediaMonkey itself?

That my songs can play on my Squeezebox and Twonky I need to remove DRM. Actually I found only, good working, recorders as Audials Tunebite and Daniusoft.

I could simply recreate WMA, but with MP3 I've got better flexibility. I also considered m4a because of our Apple players...

simplest way to remove drm is use the wav recorder program of your choice. i use freeware one called audacity.

just play the song in what ever player that you have that will handle the drm song. and record new wav file with audacity.



it no longer is the same file created by the company anymore and is not as good as they made. but the drm is gone and you can use that wav file to convert to any other format you want.

It might be the simplest way but it would take forever to do for thousands of tracks, since you need to play each one entirely to re-record it.

There are probably DRM removal tools that would just remove the DRM and leave the audio untouched. As always legality of such tools depend on your local laws.

You can use some DRM removal software. For instance, I use Tuneraft. It supports batch conversion mode, so won't have to spend much time doing it.

I used Tunebite to record 6'000 WMA into MP3, stored with the same name into the same directories of my jukebox. This took 24 hours in 3 chunks, probably also possible in one go using up to 28 virtual sound cards. For this I had a newer quad core CPU and 4GB RAM machine. Be aware that in all recorders I tested only the last value of a multi value tags were extracted.

Then I rescanned the archive with MediaMonkey.

I made a backup copy of the old WMA files, at least now.

With Advanced Duplicate Find & Fix http://mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic. ... e+find+fix I prepared a custom filter with the sub folder of my jukebox where I worked, having at least one WMA, matching title, album and filename without extension. Then I created a list which favorites MP3. From there I used 'Copy- and paste meta data in chunks of 500 files.

With Advanced Duplicate Find & Fix I was only able to process a maximum 600 files in one go, also there MediaMonkey freezes up to 10 Minutes. With more it became frozen.This on a on a 4 year 1 CPU 2GB RAM machine. Nevertheless Advanced Duplicate Find & Fix rocks!
