Hello.
I red in several occasion that Mediamonkey was the second most downloaded/popular media player.
I think I red it in one of nohitter's post.
I also red it here in the first paragraph in this page: http://sites.google.com/site/elbotijomm ... erver-mods
I was wondering where this statement comes from. Does anyone have any source for this?
I must say that I find it hard to believe...
Thank you

I don't know, but here it wasn't: http://download.cnet.com/windows/music- ... dCount+asc
Anyway unless the publishers themselves publish aggregate numbers no data is really reliable as to which application is the most popular. For example WMP comes with Windows so it's numbers will be artificially low, MediaMonkey on the other hand sends user to download.com for downloads, thus inflating numbers. Also the number of updates to the application will influence these numbers. The more updates, the more downloads as users are upgrading. Lastly downloads isn't really interesting, it's the amount of active users that really matters. I wouldn't be surprised if WMP has the largest install base, but this probably doesn't translate into largest user base. The same goes for iTunes, many will install as it's required for iPhone's and certain iPod's, but this doesn't mean that people actively use it.
I would be surprised if iTunes and WMP aren't the most used. I would guess WinAmp in 3rd then Foobar and MediaMonkey battling for 4th & 5th. I'm not sure if players like J. River still are widely used or not.

Thx for the feedback and the link Lowlander.
I see that MM is 4th most downloaded Music Management Software of download.cnet.com
That's not bad at all!
btw: found the post of nohitter:

Re: Mediamonkey second in popularity?
don't forget the links on the other freeware sites majorgeeks.com gets lots of downloads of mediamonkey every time the update is posted.
it just depends on which servers are closest to the users computer so they get the fastest download time which means you got to count all the hits on all the freeware sites and take them as complete downloads and used files then subtract 10% for those downloads that fail because of bad or slow internet connection.
and then after that you got to remove 4% of those for the users that got it tested it out found out they had to live with another player because they had to have that other player's sub standard feature, and did not want to learn how to use mediamonkeys much better working of that feature.
and i don't think there's any script out there or program that knows how to get all the hits from all the sites and figure the %'s.
if so i'm betting it would see mediamonkey as the #2 player downloaded and used. not the 4th.
but then i'm having to add a disclaimer now. I'M A HUGE MEDIAMONKEY FAN.

Re: Mediamonkey second in popularity?
From what I see the most likely reason for that is video not being handled in MM3 so I would like to see that recalculated when MM4 gets out.
