all smart phone users must read, MUST.

okay you that use your smart phone to take photos and post on them on the web.

your not going to like this but it is proven true by the reporters on the news.
fox news channel had a reporter try this on the tv doing the news.
she took a photo of her self out side some place.
and this guy that runs a web site to expose issues on phones and other items,
found the photo she posted on twitter with in 30 seconds
and in ten minutes he found the street she was on and
went to her in less then 15 minutes
by the time the news was over he was talking to her on the tv she was doing it live.

how did he find her.
the gps code in your smart phone puts a code on all photos you post and
possible documents you post on line with your smart phone.
he just looked at the gps numbers found them on google view and went right to her.

he did this to show it is possible to have thiefs know when your home and
where your at when your not home.
it makes it simple for them to get your stuff when your not home.
they also get your id info from your phone by getting your phone number
from the codes used to send the photo to the web.

it is simple to stop this.
just turn off the gps feature or don't post things online with your smart phone.

can't remember the web site he has but it should be listed on fox news. 8)

I also heard that if you wrap your head in aluminum foil while on your cellphone they can't locate you.

I didn't disable the gps feature because it might be useful in case of emergency.
ie. accident, stuck somewhere, unable to speak, just call 911 and they will be able to locate and rescue you.

Issue isn't the GPS, issue is what you share online. You shouldn't share private things online with strangers in the first place, that should be common knowledge by now.

Well that was the general rule of thumb... then Facebook and Twitter came along and made it cool to put everything about you out there for anyone to read.
Awaiting for 10160 & 10168 to be fixed/implemented before thinking of moving to MMW4.1 + MMA.

And how many times haven't we heard that we shouldn't share everything with everybody on Facebook? Gazillions of times.

you guys making jokes about this i bet you didn't read it all.

but i'll cut it to the chase for you.

the phone puts its gps marker on the photo code.
the phone number for the phone is posted in the code that is used
to upload that photo.

the codes are able to be seen by any one that knows how to look at codes.

thiefs are getting smarter and know how to look at the codes now. and use
this to find your house and make sure your not there by using your phones gps
number and looking for it on google view site.

if your not home they go and rob you.
if you are home they keep checking until your not home then they go and rob you.

its not a matter of sharing personel stuff its a matter of it being shared without you knowing it.

only way to stop it is turn off the gps or stop posting items with your smart phone.

A photo is personal in the first place, thus it should be shared with care in the first place. That Geotagging is added doesn't really matter as you shouldn't share with the whole world anyway. After all in many cases the photo itself will reveal your location. And it's no worst than posting your on vacation as then the thieves will also know you're gone. Nothing has changed people just need to learn to know what to post to whom.

PS. any source for that information?

yep the source was said its fox news the real news not the talk shows. but it should be on fox news dot com in the
fox report site that sheppard smith does.

i can't remember the web site the guy that found the info has but he should be listed there too.

as said they did it on the news and he did locate and find her through her phones gps number.

i think this story was done because of what is going on with facebook and twitter, and they wanted
to get this info out so it could be stopped.

RC
I'm glad some people don't use common sense. It lessens the chance of me getting ripped off.
We need a certain percentage of careless people to keep the thieves busy.
