Hi, I've just installed PUID Generator and it's taking so long on each track.
All my tracks are MP3.
I've tried just highlighting an album at a time.
Internet connection seems fine.
MuisIP tagger works fine.
Any ideas.

I've used MusicIP tagger for over a year and although I've asked it to save PUID info in the Mood Field it never has.
Don't know if thats relevant.

I have set PUID Generator to save in Mood field and i can see that it has been working just super slow/hangs.
Cheers

It's not to do with the internet connection, this script processes the file to calculate an audio fingerprint - this takes time!

I understand how it works trix, it just hangs a lot. Sometimes crashes completely and the terminate command very rarely works. Just wondering if there are any known things that cause a problem.

If I run musicIP tagger it flys through the tracks, but PUIDgenerator takes for ever.
If i leave it on all night the most it will seem to do is about 300/400 tracks versus quite a few thousand if I use musicIP tagger.

Well I don't know why that could be, the code for generating the PUID is identical, as all it does is call out to an external application. Unfortunately I can't get MM to remain responsive whilst the application is running, although I've tried lots of different things.

Just did a clean install of MM. I'm using Gold on XP SP3.
No other scripts or extensions.
Installed PUID Generator, still very slow. generated the 13 tracks for "Incognito - 100 and Rising" took about 10 minutes.
Unistalled PUID Generator and Installed MusicIP tagger. Deleted the stored PUIDs from the "Mood" field
Ran MusicIP tagger on same album. It took less than a minute. The time spent on each track is always fairly uniform where as with PUID Generator it fluctuates. Sometimes hanging on 1 track for 10 minutes or more.

*Should MuiscIP tagger store the PUID and display it the same as PUID Generator does?
I've never seen anything displayed in the chosen field when using MusicIP Tagger.
I've always used "Mood"

Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else gets a similar problem.

Problem solved (worked around)
It's the Mood field. I tried assigning PUIDs to Custom1 (not Custom 1):) and it works like it should.
I also changed MusicIP to save in Custom1 and this now saves the PUID Ok as well.

All working as it should. I only used Mood because it was in the drop down choices on MusicIP tagger.
Would prefer to free up the Custom1 for something else though if possible.

Well I don't know why Mood is a problem, I just use the access methods, so not much I can do about it I imagine. You can set "MusicIP Tagger" to store the PUID in the same fields as the "PUID Generator".

None of my tracks return errors so this is proving hard to test - can you (or anyone) send me a track which does?

Hello, this seems like an awesome script, but I seem to be having an issue with getting this script to even run. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I downloaded the installer and installed the script in MM. I have renamed my Custom 3 field to PUID and restarted the computer. I then select some tracks. I go to tools > scripts > PUID Generator and a dialog box pops up for a field name. I input PUID into the box, hit okay, and immediately get a "PUIDGenerator: Invalid field name was specified." error. I've also input "Custom 3" into the dialog with the same error. Any thoughts? I appreciate the help.

Running MM 3.2.5.1306

Cheers,

Chad

Hi there,

just installed PUID Generator 2.4 and MusicIP tagger 1.9, defined Custom2 as UID field and executed the scripts.
None of them writes a PUID value to the field.

Any ideas why? No error message so far. Just no calculated values.

Many thx & KR,
a great fan of your scripts!

Try enabling the debug mode and looking in your %temp% folder for the logfile.
