1348: Unable to import MPG and VOB video files [#7317]

Post by sesam »

I'm unable to add import/add any MPG or VOB video files. "Error scanning file ..... - error while reading file info".

I have installed the MM Codec Pack Trial tried installing CCCP 1.09 and also tried installing CCCP codec pack, but made no difference.

^ I see that's good to know, I guess it's the same problem with VOB as it's very similar :)

I have, the reason i ask is i believe its been like this since 1346 so in 2-3 ways time this issue hasn't been fixed in 1 month...

Other items have higher priority. You'll need to be patient.

^ I think they are making some progress on it, noticed that they added a note in the bug tracker

"Basic parsing of MPEG-PS container implemented in build 1351. It should recognize MPEGA audio streams and MPEG1 and MPEG2 video streams.
Parsing MPEG-TS container and other stream types (e.g. AC3 and DTS which appear in VOB files, or AVC1, MPEG4 and several other stream types) has lesser priority and will be implemented sometimes later."

For me personally this is a pretty major feature, because I need a media manager also for music videos. But pretty much all my music videos are in VOB/AC3, I would assume that is the case for most other people too, if they got them from original music video DVD's.

+1

releasing the first beta of mm4 is meant to be when its feature complete not 'some features work some not at all and the rest well .. who knows'

Release 1352 seems to be a much better release for video. 1352 still has quirks but addressed many of the issues I had with vieo in 1349. I tried a MPG file and it worked. The earlier versions wouldn't even recognize my files or put them in the library. 1352 does.

1353
I understand that the problem with importing VOB files (DVD directories) have not yet solved, but they do not play in MM at all (MM Codec Pack 1.09.1).
But if rename separate VOB file in MPEG (MPG), it will be played and imported fine.
I think that for those who use individual vob files, it will be a temporary way out.

MM runs as administrator.

^ Thanks for the information, I just now downloaded 1353 and tried some vobs renamed to MPG and sure enough they import and play 8)

(Though I now noticed a couple of issues with the audio sync and scaling during video playback, but I'm not sure yet if it's MM or my other codecs on my system causing it).
