Request: Music>Location Tree folders

Post by mmfan »

I have been using MM3 forever and though that the library location tree was a chore for me. In MM3, the library tree is something like this:

>Libray
--->Location
------>[HD letter]
--------->Music folder>
------------>{actually folder contents}

This is a chore to click>click>click>click. And this annoyance was reported here while back. I can't dig it up through the search anymore, but I'm sure it was mentioned before.

Here's the new MM4 tree:

Which is the same really.

So I would like to request one more time on behalf of all people finding this annoying. Plz do something like this :

>Music
--->Locations>
------>Music Folder X (C:)>
--------->sub folders
------>Music Folder Y (D:)>
--------->sub folders

Perhaps have a parenthesis indicating which drive the Music folder belong to like I show above. Unless anyone can come up with a better solution, plz do this for me plz, I'll play extra!

I don't follow you. You're suggesting to remove the root node for the music files? What if someone actually has files saved there? How would they access them?

As much as I know about MM, users are asked to check for folder locations when they first use MM. MM database from there on would only monitor checked folders. It doesn't monitor the root for contents.

So, if user had checked say drive D:\ as one of their location, then D:\ should be listed under the location tree.
To make thing clearer,only checked folders should be displayed under the location tree--not their whole entire descendants. I hope you understand, else ask me again and I'll make a visual or something.

I think GIL had the same idea last year: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... =4&t=37593

You could circumvent it by using Favourite Nodes script to create direct links to folders: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... f=2&t=7656

Yes, that was what I was looking for in the search, but couldn't find.

Ooh, I never knew about that before. Though I think sole purpose of the Location Node is just to list all the checked folders, so why not make it easier to navigate. And beside, installing one more node is one too many for the already crowed tree.

You do know you can hide any nodes in the tree that you like...?

Yes, I know you can do that, but I think it should be done by the Location Node by default to eliminate extra clicking.

And beside, I just tried the Favorite Node and it doesn't really solve the problem. It doesn't even have a node in the nav tree, only a button in the toolbar. So it only add more problem than actually fixing anything. I also do a lot of drag & drop too, so I use the Location Node quite often. So pls fix it for me, I ask of you.

This has already been discussed before.

Although I agree it can be annoying, it also provides an essential feature where the use can copy/move paste tracks to higher level tracks. The Location node is an actual representation of the users folder structure, so if this is an issue you should reconsider the used folder structure (use something like (drive:\music\ instead)

What do you mean by reconsider using folder structure? There is is already the My Computer Node in the tree if people want to browse up the structure, so I see no reason why the Location Node should do the same thing. I'm just making a case for the logical order of what the Location node should be, and it should be convenience.

Location belongs to Library and My Computer doesn't. For me it is essential that both do behave the same as I they are different nodes. I use both a fair amount.

I still have no idea what you mean. Why should there be two nodes that do the same thing, that's what I'm trying to say.

I'm saying they don't. One allows folder navigation of tracks only in your Library (Location) and one allows folder navigation of all tracks on your PC. Only if your Library contains all tracks on your PC would both provide the same.

Problem: Whenever I organise my music, I have one folder on my external hard drive that contains all unsorted music, untagged music that isn't in the library yet. Once I tag an album in there I then auto-organise and it auto adds to the library. The problem is, I use this folder so often that it becomes cumbersome when sifting through the My Computer node to get to this folder.

Request: What I would like is go to this particular folder path under "My Computer" node (for me it's H:\<Username>\Music 2\Albums), right click this folder and have option "add to media tree". Basically a shortcut/node to a folder, under My Computer, added to the media tree containing files not in the library.

Tested: I’ve tried using Magic Nodes, which is what I wanted. I set it up perfectly to have this option using <path>, however it only worked with tracks in the library. :cry: After an hour searching, I came to this thread and I noticed you nice devs posted a favourite nodes script. I tried it out and this has been the best script so far doing exactly what I want, a shortcut to a folder. However it only shows a toolbar icon, not a separate media tree node.

So is there anything that links the two scripts together? If not, could someone be kind enough to make a simple script like this please, it would be so great and many people would appreciate it.

Apologises if this has already been requested/answered/not possible/too many threads on this/possible with scripts mentioned above/possible with script not mentioned above. Also I’m sorry if I’ve posted this to the wrong thread.

Thanks
