Control MediaMonkey from an Android device

Postby Hybrid SaaS » Fri Jun 03, 2011 9:04 pm

Hello!

i just made my first Android application, it allows you to control MediaMonkey from an Android device,
you can find the full description on http://www.hybridsaas.com/androidcontrol/

You can:

See current song, album and artist
See albumart
Swipe albumart (left/right) to skip to next or previous track
See and set progress of current song
Tap stars to set rating
Change volume (using progressbar or using hardware buttons)
Pause the current song

let me know if you like it.. because i do..

I'm using my HTC flyer (tablet) and my HTC desire Z (phone) to control my MediaMonkey on my mediacenter while my television is off..

It's a first version so don't expect to much, but I'm already loving it..

It has come to my attention that the Android Control Server needs administrator priveleges. It needs elevated rights.. Otherwise it will give an exception: access is denied. I will try to fix that...

I updated the Android App (has been pushed to the market)
- Solved crash while exiting application

I updated the Android Control Server to version v1.0.0.1
- At startup the application will check if the latest version is installed.
- If the server could not start it will notify the user by what cause

Both the Android and the Windows application were updated:

* The communication engine is replaced with a new shiny custom communication-engine to talk with the Android device, this because the Microsoft implementation required administrator privileges.
* Added open port in firewall option in installer
* First time the application is run the main window is shown
* In the main window you can see the IP-addresses of the local machine..

Thank you for sending in your crashreports, this fixed the following issues:

* The communication server listening thread was not killed correctly, this prevented the user from installing new versions (If you have this problem, please kill the process Android Control.exe using the taskmanager)
* Fixed a crash while retrieving non existing albumart
* If a new version is available for the Server, the program asks if you want to download it

I love it, if I'd get it to work.
Can't connect my phone (Samsung galaxy S android 2.2.1 no custom rom) with pc (win7 32bit) somehow.
* have latest android control (AC) v1.0.0.4
* have android control from market
On the pc AC is a simple window that says
"IP adresses (Enter this in your Android device)
169.254.200.193
169.254.194.31
145.120.**.**"
The last one is my actual IPv4 addres (I masked it here with *)
When I start AC on my phone, I see a monkey. In menu>settings>server addres I tried all 3 or only my IPv4, with and without dots. But they won't connect. Both have internet acces and the TCP-port corresponds. I don't have them on a wireless network but I don't think that is required.

Help appreciated.

You do not have direct IP. You may try VPN e.g. hamachi and more

Thank you for sending in your crashreports, I fixed the following issues:

* If the application could not find MediaMonkey it crashed (It now gives a message)
* If the socket was closed during send/receive it would crash the application

Hi,

The android market tells me the app would not be compatible with any of my devices... they're android 2.2 phones, so i'm wondering what requirements you did fill out? I'd really like to use the app, and most apps do work on our phones :)

Terrific app! It'd be twice as terrific if it were possible to add an option to have the controller appear on top of the lock screen the way that Mixzing player can. Or, if it had a widgit, you could use the widgit with the Widgitlocker app, which lets you access widgits without unlocking the android device.

Otherwise, if you use a screen lock (which you really should do), you have to unlock the device each time you want to do anything like skip a song.

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth though!

Thanks again for the very cool app!

hey, this app it's really nice!

I just found a small problem:

no landscape support.

keep in mind that the official dock for my Nexus S keeps the phone in landscape position so if you could add support for this it would be good :D

also, a little detail more, "auto scrolling" for the artist/album field (title already does it :D) in case they don't fit on the screen.
