Currently running 3.2.4.1304. Whenever I tried to use Discogs Tagger 3.2, as soon as the album is found, the app freezes on me, even after waiting a good 15 minutes to no avail. This is when I am choosing the last option, using the Discogs database to fetch information.

Any ideas what might be causing such issue? I also have last.fm scrobbler installed, as well as the lyricator and lyrics viewer.

Hmm... do the other taggers (such as Amazon) work for you?

You mention that as soon as the album is found it freezes--so do you see the first result displayed before it freezes?

It sounds to me like a larger problem with your MediaMonkey installation, or *possibly* your database, but it's hard to say for sure. For starters, you might want to try disabling all other plugins (including the last.fm scrobbler) to limit the number of unknowns while troubleshooting this.

As the script itself is working fine for many people, if you're pretty sure it's the plugin that's causing the problem for you, you could always try the 'manual installation' method to make sure that there wasn't some issue during the plugin installation initially that's preventing it from working.

I have a hunch that it isn't the script that's causing the freezing, however, but that the script is probably making some system call or MediaMonkey function call which is failing for some reason and causing the freezing. I could be way off base there, but maybe Let has some more information about what occurs immediately after the tagger's search completes that could be causing the issue?

I did the manual installation because I prefer to do things the hard way, but let me test without the other plugins and I'll see if that fixes the issue. Next I'll try to compact my database. Thanks for the help! I'll definitely let you know how things turn out.

A toggle checkbox for matching only by track/disc number and nothing else would be a nice addition.

I have a large album with many similar track names not exactly the same, and foreign characters etc.

@bmcclure

It's still freezing up whenever I try to resize the window to make it larger so I can actually see the changes being made.

I admit that MM freezes for me sometimes too when I try to move or resize the Discogs Tagger window. It's at a decent size now for me though so I don't have much need to--certainly annoying when it does freeze, but I'm not sure if that's a MM bug or a Discogs Tagger bug.

The only other problem I have, like the previous poster, is that it matches by song name and not by track number, so discs with a lot of similar track names are sometimes hard to tag properly because they all default to the first track number with that name.

But it has much much larger database than Amazon so it's worth it for me... I rarely find albums I can't tag with Discogs Tagger... even old concert bootlegs and unofficial releases.

for matching by track number, select all songs and delete track titles (and/or artist), then it should match by track number. let me know about the results.

regarding freezes; even i have freezes sometimes. would you try tagging some other album since it might be release related. if it's album related, i can debug it if you can zip the whole album and upload to some file sharing web site. other than that it might be your system/configuration.

eepman: nice to see you back here, i hope you are doing well with your classes.

deleted artist and track title on about eighteen songs, but no dice with matching them to disc/track numbers.

glad to be back on here, was waiting for the version 4 beta to stabilize before getting anywhere near this stuff again  . classes are still going well, just started some new ones.

do you have track numbers on files whose track titles are deleted? (and they match of course) another option is to help matching by putting some track titles.

note that discogs tagger will work on most (but all) cases. by helping it with these tricks it will work with more yet there will always be some cases that it won't work.

i am working on a brand new version. i have so many plans.... :)

I like the idea of a checkbox or radio button set (unless you've got something better planned :D ) that controls whether to match by title or track number first.

What I usually end up doing is copying the exact titles from the release I want to tag and pasting them, and then re-searching for the album so it matches the new titles. Then it only doesn't work if there are multiple titles that are exactly the same, so I usually end up just manually fixing those. Next time, I'll try deleting the titles from those tracks and seeing if that works instead.

Technically speaking, matching is done by MM and there is no way to specify for matching with track number.

http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... dateTracks

Matching sometimes becomes impossible (eg: all tracks are untitled, previous tags are wrong or non-existent). I consider myself as primary user of this add-on and I am also facing these problems and do some tagging manually. If there was a solution it would be there.

Long story short, it's best to focus on those that works rather than those that doesn't work :)

But the Amazon tagger seems to tag albums so accurately (when it actually has it in its database). I've never had a problem with it mixing up track numbers because of similar titles, at least as long as there were track numbers to begin with. I've only ever experienced that behavior with the Discogs Tagger (though the only taggers I've used that I recall are Amazon and Discogs).

I wonder what the difference is in the way the searches are handled?

On my freezing issue:

I'm running Windows 7 64x Ultra

I have no problems fetching data at all. It's only on the resize of the window that Media Monkey freezes and subsequently crashes.

This leads me to believe that it's not specific to any issues surround particular files.

No, it's MM3 with IE9 that causes freezing. MM4 currently in the Beta forum fixes this.

Cool. I tried the Beta last night and that was crashtacular. Hope they get it ironed out soon!
