iTunes 10.5 and IOS 5 Status

Post by rusty »

Hi,

Please see the last post in this thread for the current status.

This is just a short note to let you know that MediaMonkey 3 and 4 are not yet compatible with iTunes 10.5 or IOS 5, so if you wish to keep your device compatible with MediaMonkey, it's advisable not to upgrade to the latest iTunes or IOS firmware just yet.

We're working on this, and expect to have news on this in the near future (to be posted in this thread).

Thanks for your patience.

Quick update:

With the latest 4.0 beta versions, iPhone/iPod touch/iPad detection should be fine on any iOS. However, if the device has iOS 5, you will only be able to browse the device, not sync. Syncing will work for all previous iOS releases even with iTunes 10.5 installed.

Beta versions are available at:

Update:
Non-iOS iPods seem to work fine with both MediaMonkey 3 and 4
iPhone 4 (Firmware 4.x) and iPod Touch (Firmware 3.x) Devices: Generally seem to work with MediaMonkey 4 (but not version 3)
iPhone 3GS Devices (Jailbroken?): Are no longer recognized by MediaMonkey 3 or 4
iPhone 3G: Works fine with MediaMonkey 4
iPad 2 (firmware 3.x): Works fine with MediaMonkey 4 (but not version 3)
iPad 1 (firmware 3.x, Jailbroken?): Not recognized by MediaMonkey 3 or 4

Please share your experiences with other devices here--we're still unsure as to whether it's the Jailbreaking that is causing the problem with 3GS and iPad 1 devices.

So for now, we recommend that you hold off on upgrading to iTunes 10.5. BUT if you must upgrade to iTunes 10.5 and iOS 5, or if you've already done so, then you can continue to use MediaMonkey to manage your music, and to sync via iTunes by using the iTunes MediaMonkey 4 Plugin (a similar plugin for MM3 is also available via the support site). It bypasses MediaMonkey's native iOS synchronization routines, and instead treats iTunes as a hardware device, and relies on iTunes to do the actual file transfer.

Thanks!

Update: Most problems with iTunes 10.5 and MM4 are occurring with Jailbroken devices.

Summary -- After upgrading to iTunes 10.5:
-Non-iOS iPods seem to work fine with both MediaMonkey 3 and 4
-iOS 3,4 devices (iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4 (Firmware 4.x) and iPod Touch, iPad (Firmware 3.x) Devices: Work with MediaMonkey 4 (but not version 3)
Except that Jailbroken iOS devices are often not recognized by MediaMonkey 3 or 4
- iOS 5 devices are recognized by MediaMonkey 4 (and not MediaMonkey 3) but can't sync with MediaMonkey

Please share your experiences here.

So for now, if you have a Jailbroken device, we recommend that you hold off on upgrading to iTunes 10.5 as the device may not be recognized by MediaMonkey post-upgrade. BUT if you must upgrade to iTunes 10.5 (and iOS 5), or if you've already done so, then you can continue to use MediaMonkey to manage your music, and to sync via iTunes by using the iTunes MediaMonkey 4 Plugin (a similar plugin for MM3 is also available via the support site). It bypasses MediaMonkey's native iOS synchronization routines, and instead treats iTunes as a hardware device, and relies on iTunes to do the actual file transfer.

Thanks!

Hi,

The current status is that:
- Non-iOS iPods (iPod Classic, iPod Mini, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle): Are compatible with MediaMonkey 3 and 4 after updating to iTunes 10.5
- iOS devices (iPhone, 3G, 3GS, 4 and iPod Touch, iPad) running iOS 3, 4: Work with MediaMonkey 4 (but not version 3) after updating to iTunes 10.5
- iOS devices (iPhone, 3G, 3GS, 4 and iPod Touch, iPad) running iOS 5: Are recognized by MediaMonkey 4 (and not version 3) but can't natively sync with MediaMonkey after updating to iTunes 10.5

Note however, that some users are experiencing high CPU utilization issues in relation to iOS devices after updating to iTunes 10.5. So for now, you can upgrade to iTunes 10.5, but don't upgrade your iOS device firmware to iOS 5 as the device will not sync with MediaMonkey post-upgrade.

If you must upgrade to iOS 5, or if you've already done so, then you can continue to use MediaMonkey to manage your music, and to sync via iTunes by using the iTunes MediaMonkey 4 Plugin (a similar plugin for MM3 is also available via the support site). It bypasses MediaMonkey's native iOS synchronization routines, and instead treats iTunes as a hardware device, and relies on iTunes to do the actual file transfer.

Thanks!

Hi,

Some of you have asked for an updated status on this. Unfortunately we don't yet have enough information that would allow us to predict with any degree of confidence as to when we'll have native iOS 5 support.

Please see the previous post in this thread re. how to sync with iOS 5 using a plugin.
