MediaMonkey doesn't add new tracks

Postby albertvermue » Wed Dec 29, 2010 3:09 pm

Since a few days MM won't add new tracks. I have all MP3 in subfolders in My Music folder. I normally add new subfolders and use the option add folders/rescan. But the MP3 in the new folders aren't added to my library. I always started to use the option file monitoring but that doesn't help either.
Can you help me sorting this problem?

(BTW the menu items named above are my translations of the dutch ones

I saw this thread and thought that I would add some related questions (problems that I am having) about how MM adds new tracks to the media library.

Scenario 1
I have an external hard drive with my music. It has the auto-organize and file monitoring features selected.
If I have music on a different external hard drive and add it to a playlist, MM automatically moves the music from the send drive to my main drive. However, it does not then add it the tracks to the media library. And, after MM is finished stalling during the process, the playlist is also empty.
Process I followed: I selected the tracks, chose send to, new playlist, named it, and clicked ok.

My Questions:
Why does adding to a playlist automatically move it from one drive to another? Can I change that?
Why do the songs not show up in the media library once MM has moved them?
Why does the playlist remain empty even after I sent the new tracks to it?

Scenario 2
While editing music from my laptop or a different external hard drive than my principal hard drive...I use the Ctrl-R feature to move it from one location to another, but it does not automatically add it into the library. Well, it does not do so consistently. I must then rescan the new folders to get the new songs into the MM. Why is that?

Thanks for the advice.

I love the Monkey and the forum.
Thanks to all who provide advice, assistance, add ons and scripts. It is very much appreciated!

Make sure files aren't set to hidden (MediaMonkey ignores these) or that the Virtual CD or Previews folder is set to the folder you're scanning (contents of these folders is ignored).

1) When adding files to a playlist the files aren't moved. Are you sure Tools > Options > Auto-Organize doesn't contain organization rules that might be applied?

2) It seems MediaMonkey is respecting that the files weren't in the database and thus when making modifications it still doesn't add them to the database (after all you're just renaming/moving files on your PC).

Same problem here, I would same MM refuses to add only certain files (I can't imagine why), though the directory - where all music files are stored - is same.
Kinda of bug, I wish I could use MM 3.0, it was much better.

You can add specific files to MediaMonkey by drag & dropping them onto a main Collection node. Otherwise as plenty of posts explain any files that are set to hidden or stored in the VirtualCD/Previews/UPnP Cache folder will be ignored during Add/Rescan Files/File Monitor.

The file is not hidden or not placed in a folder where VirualCD, Previews and etc are stored. I tried to drag and drop it right to the player, as well as start playing it by the player, and also tried to open it by Ctrl+O command, tried to change the directory/filename of the music file, and of course i tried to re-scan the music database (manually and automatically) - the result is 0.
A few days ago same thing happened - i've added the whole album in mp3 - but MM showed only 5 of 99 tracks. I didn't like the music, so I didn't consider that as a problem. But now....

Just installed MM 3.2.5 - it has found the file immediately.
MM 4.0 is still full of bugs, guys.

If opening the file from Windows Explorer in MediaMonkey fails it is most likely an unsupported file. What file type is the file?

Well it was damaged, it played by MM perfectly, though it didn't want it to be added to the library. Other players didn't have any problems too. File is mp3 256 vbr. I can upload it just for an experiment.

I've experienced the same problem, MM ver 4.01 does not add certain folders with mp3's, flac's, etc - uncanny, it adds all the rest of my music folders - my only solution to this problem was: I've uninstalled ver 4 and re-installed the latest version I have available: 3.2.5.1306 - this version adds all my music folders and files without any errors.

@jjstccean, did you check the Entire Library node as this is where everyone else finds their missing tracks?

lol, exactly that's the problem. just now i tried to install 4.0.1 and it asked me to delete files that are no longer available in the library (and MM showed the exact files, that were played in version 3 with out any problems but which i falild to add to the MM 4 library)

By the way, I appreciate your work, connected with the evolution of MM, but still I must admit that I really like MM 3.x much and much more. The only trouble with that player - is that lately it refuses to download the music info from amazon (it says - 0 results). Maybe somehow there is a way to insert this fixed search from MM 4.0 to 3.0 so that Ctrl+L command worked properly?

By the way, there was always this problem, at any version of MM and on different computers. It somehow connected with putting the MM to tray.
