file associations

MM keeps trying to take over my file associations.
I want to stop this action - how do I do it?

Tools->Options->General (OS Integration), check them all off... Worked for me when I did a clean install of MM4.0.1.1461 after uninstalling MM3 (sniff, sniff).

I have them all unchecked.
It still continues to try to take over file associations.

Hmm, that's odd. When I first installed MM4 on Win7 x64, it immediately ran as admin and displayed that file association menu, which I promptly unchecked. Then I ran MM4 as a standard user. It first asked me to enter the admin pass, but I canceled that and it ran was my current standard user account. There, it went through the same setup sequence and I unchecked everything on that file association menu and exited after it finished updating my MM.DB that I had to move back to the standard directory (x:\user\username\appdata\local\mediamonkey). After all of that, I found that mediamonkey did not touch my previous associations I had with my audio and video files for vlc and mediaplayer classic respectively. Maybe save your mm.db, nuke the install, and start over? This was one of my chief fears heading into installing MM4. I guess I'm lucky. However, I still think that MM3 was better

Right now it keeps trying to associate AVI files every few minutes and I stop it with WinPatrol

Disable re-associate on startup as well and restart MediaMonkey.

It IS disabled and has been.

It keeps trying to associate AVI files .. every few minutes .. doesn''t matter if MM is running or not.

In that case I suggest you send a debug log (step 4b) to support from before starting MediaMonkey to closing MediaMonkey: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=69

It is the most annoying thing in the world. I'm going to uninstall and never look back soon if this does not stop.

There is no bug in MMW, problem is that system looses Associations. Win 10 changed all that all over again.

There is only two ways why MMW (I had same issue with SumatraPDF, Libre Office, XNView, FireFox and few others) can't associate file:
1. MMW is blocked to add itself to list of supported apps for the format and can't be associated (Right click -> Open with -> Choose Application -> Browse)
2. Some other App forces itself as Default app (Winamp Agent, Pot/Daum Player, sPlayer, WMP, iTunes, MusicBee, ....) when it is started or on windows start or on scheduled time

Each case is specific and in 99.99% fix is individual per PC not generic. All that would be easily handled if Windows like Android present list of playback apps and then allow to set and follow ALWAYS without way to override it without user interaction.
