Mediamonkey erzwingt sich Programmstandards!

Postby Rüdiger Genervt » Tue Feb 28, 2012 9:28 pm

Hallo MM Community,

Thank you! But still a stupid new feature to me. I use MediaMonkey for 5 years now and have never been missing a feature like that...

Still works the same as before, in MediaMonkey 3 it was Tools > Options > File Types.

The file types option is not new, but the feature that checks if all selected files there are still associated with MM is, or now new set by default. I think it should not be set by default. Because oft that agressive way to enforce file type associations mediamonkeycom.exe was even rated as malware in a big german security forum.

That is a really common option in software (all browsers do it). And as it is an option. It seems the forum is unfair and jumped to conclusions.

A) You're not forced to associated any file types with MediaMonkey
B) You're not forced to re-associate on startup, but for most this is useful as they didn't associate MediaMonkey with certain file types for nothing.
C) On first run you're asked with which file types you want to associated MediaMonkey, you can deselect all

The change with MediaMonkey 3 is that the file type association was asked in the installer, whereas MediaMonkey 4 has a wizard on first start asking this and some other basic settings. Many seem to skip/OK this step and then get upset that associations were set. This process has been fine tuned for 4.0.3.
