No Artwork (AlbumArt) in My Computer view

Postby Macarena » Wed Feb 22, 2012 3:35 pm

Dear Devs,

the Artwork of the albums does not show up in the My Computer tree. On the other hand, the Artwork shows up in the Artwork tab in the File Properties, i.e. it is linked/embedded in the files.

MM build 1476.

Should I supply any other information, please?

Cheers,
M

Where doesn't it show up? I checked the Art with Details view and the Art & Details window set to Selected and both showed the Art for files in the My Computer. Are the files in the Library as well? Is the Art embedded or only linked, what file type(s) is this happening for?

Thank you for your attention, Lowlander!

The following video presents an Album (mp3, Artwork linked), for which the Artwork appears in the Music tree and in the My Computer tree, but not in the File Properties (ca. 1.4MB) http://screencast.com/t/e1uXcXWYx

The following video presents an Album, for which different Artworks appear in the Music tree and in the My Computer tree. (ca. 2.5MB) http://screencast.com/t/pou5qOKBcJNq

The following video presents an Album, for which the Artwork appears in the Music tree, but not in the My Computer tree. (ca. 2.5MB) http://screencast.com/t/q0tgBlkw2

All the videos show the following steps:
- choosing the album in the Music tree
- showing the Artwork is present
- switching to the My Computer tree using the Find from the same > Folder (My Computer)
- the Artwork does not show up in the view, or Artwork, which is not the first one, shows up.
- the Artwork does not show up in the File Properties.
- optionally, sorting Artwork(s). The Artwork eventually shows up. (Once the Artwork showed up in this My Computer tree, it will show up also next time)

I checked the albums with the properties you mentioned. It is hard to tell, but find the following:
If the first Artwork embedded, then the Artwork show up OK (none of the behaviour described above)
If the first Artwork linked, then -> see the video

I could not find any connection to the filetype, yet.

Is scan file directories for artwork enabled under Tools > Options > Library? My untested assumption is that MediaMonkey doesn't show linked Art in the Art tab for files in the My Computer as linked Art isn't a file property. That explains why you don't see it in video 1 & 2. I also assume that MediaMonkey shows the first (alphabetically) art which explains why the Back cover is shown in video 2.
Video 3 is hard to follow, so I'm not sure what I'm seeing.

I also don't know what the affect of cached Artwork (for Library files) is on the My Computer node. I don't know if the My Computer node uses this at all or not.

Yes, please, it is.

I am lost at your explanation. Should there be difference in how MM handles/displays linked and tagged Artworks?

Lowlander wrote:Video 3 is hard to follow, so I'm not sure what I'm seeing.

In principle, the same process as in the video 1 and 2.
- Choosing the album in the Music tree (click on the album title)
- showing that the Artwork is present in the tracks and that is is linked
- switching to the My Computer tree using the Find from the same > Folder (My Computer)
- the Artwork does not show up in the view
- although, the Artwork does show up in the File Properties
- and a bonus: sorting Artwork(s). Voilà, the Artwork eventually shows up. So, alas, the linked Artwork may show up in My Computer node

Thank you very much, Lowlander. I keep the thread informed, if I bump into something new. I hope to receive some other view and opinions,

Linked Artwork doesn't get associated with the tracks (if I'm not mistaken). They're merely image files on your PC. This means it is up to the media application to associate tracks with linked art (MM saves this link in DB, but DB isn't used in My Computer node). Embedded Art is stored in the track like tags and thus always associated with the track.

Today I had similar problems with album art.
I never had these problems before, however, yesterday I removed about 100 albums from the MM library.
Today I added ~50 albums where album art was already clean tagged in files before scanning into MM.
For the new albums the AA did not appear at all in MM.
I checked this issue and found the problem coming from the MM WIN7 temp folder rights.
I changed rights for this folder to full access, deleted all temp files and restarted MM and saw my AA is perfect now.

Dear Claes,

good that it worked or you, but it is not applicable for me: On my WinXP system, MM is installed as a portable SW on a separate HDD, and all the temp files are located there, too. There are no right management applied for this disc.

Cheers, M
